John Trudell was a famous American novelist, poet, actor, musician and political activist. He was the spokesman for the United Indians of All Tribes who occupied Alcatraz in early 1969. In 1970 he was also the national chairman of the American Indian Movement in Minneapolis, Minnesota. When his pregnant wife, three children and mother-in-law were killed in a mysterious fire at his father-in-law’s home on the Shoshone-Paiute Duck Valley Indian Reservation in Nevada in 1979, his life changed dramatically.

Then he tried his hand at music and film. In the nineties, he appeared in three films. John has just started his acting career. He has appeared in many famous films, including “Pow Wow Highway” in 1989 and Thunderheart, which was released in 1992. His performances in On Deadly Ground (1995) and Smoke Signals (1998) were equally strong, pushing his career forward. He is also known for his roles as Peltier in Thunderheart and Coyote in Spider and Coyote. Trudell, a documentary film, is about him and his life as an activist and artist.
