Johnny Depp Shares Photos with Al Pacino from Set of Their New Movie Modi: ‘Incredibly Fulfilling’

Johnny Depp is directing on the set of his upcoming film, Fashion.

The film marks Depp’s second directorial effort and stars Al Pacino.

In newly released pictures from the set, Pacino, 83, is seen as art collector Maurice Gangnat, while Depp, 60, smiles behind the camera and chats with the cast with his script in hand.

He especially saluted his Oscar-winning collaborator: “Alu, who asked me to make this film — how could I refuse Pacino? Sincere recognition for generously contributing your talent and dedication to this project.”

Fashion is a testament to the collaborative spirit of independent filmmaking, and I’m excited to bring this unique and compelling story to the world,” Depp concluded.

Written by Jerzy Kromolowski, Mary Olson-Kromolowski and Dennis McIntyre, Fashion based on McIntyre’s play about the Italian artist Amede Modigliani.

According to a press release from Depp’s production company IN.2 Film, the film follows Modigliani’s life “in a whirlwind 48 hours, chronicling a chaotic series of events in the streets and bars of war-torn Paris during World War I.”

It continues: “On the run from the police, Modi’s desire to end his career and leave the city is rejected by his fellow Bohemians. Chaos reaches a climax when he confronts a collector who could change his life.”

The main role is played by Riccardo Scamarcio, who recently appeared in Kenneth Branagh’s film Haunting in Venice. Antonia Desplat, Bruno Gouery, Ryan McParland, Benjamin Lavernhe and Pacino costar.

Depp made his directorial debut with 1997’s Marlon Brando Brave.

In November, Depp took to Instagram to acknowledge the film’s team for their “exceptional efforts” in closing production on Fashion.

Actor Ryan McParland, who plays painter Chaïm Soutine in the film, also posted photos from the film’s set, including one of him and pirates of the Carribean star with arms around shoulders.

“Much love and respect to my dear brother @johnnydepp, our captain, for his unique vision, his passion, his care and his trust – I salute you,” McParland wrote.

In May, Depp made a public appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, where his French film was screened Jeanne Du Barry was opening the festival, a year after his controversial defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard.

Among Depp’s upcoming projects is an animated film Johnny Puff: Secret Mission.
