“You know, it’s interesting. My mom always told me, ‘The whole world doesn’t have to know everything. JoJo. You can keep some things private.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, yeah, totally,'” the Dance moms said the star. “Secrets are hard to keep. They’re so hard to keep. When you’re so excited about something… I was kind of born to share my life with the world, and I’m OK with that and I enjoy it.”

“I mean, I started out in a great relationship. When I first came out, I was in a really, really good relationship,” she explained. “We were young. I mean, I was 17 and she was 16. Odds are—sorry if someone’s 17 or 16—but odds are your relationship isn’t going to work at that age. And if you’re older than that, or if you’re 17 and 16 years old and you see them and they think they’re going to get married, you can laugh about it because we all know that sometimes it doesn’t work out, some high school cute people practice, there is a very small percentage, but it was very cute, typical.”

“But after that, I had a public relationship with someone else that wasn’t the best—it seemed like the best, but it wasn’t the best. And then, after it ended, it really wasn’t the best. And it scared me not to speak publicly about relationships,” she admitted then. “It wasn’t anything that the world really did. It was more what was going on between the two of us. And I was like, you know what? Lemme I just don’t. So that’s when I swore I wasn’t going to share the relationship anymore.”

“And I was good. I was in one serious relationship, but like two love relationships, and nobody knew about either of them. So I’ll accept that. Congratulations,” she added.

However, everything changed for Siwa after meeting Wilson (19).

“Just three months ago I got into a relationship with an amazing girl and it was interesting,” she said. “It was okay for me to go out in public with her. She feels special and we’re in a very comfortable place. I’ve never been in this place where I’m in a relationship with her before.”

Siwa added: “I’m so young too. I’m 21. She’s also young. She’s only 19. We’re both still figuring life out and I think I’ve accepted that. I’ve accepted that we’re both figuring life out. We’re not perfect but we love the girl and we have a good time.

As for whether her public status makes her feel like she needs to be a role model, Siwa said during a Rhode Island Comic Con panel that she thinks “it’s something that other people put on me.”

“I never necessarily think to myself, ‘I’m a role model. I have to do this.’ I think other people might look at me and say, ‘Oh, you’re a role model,'” she said. “I don’t want to live my life like I’m a role model. I have to be a role model.
