The criminal trial of Jonathan Majors in New York has been postponed again.
On Wednesday, Majors, 33, appeared virtually before Judge Rachel S. Pauley in Manhattan Criminal Court for a brief hearing that set a new trial date for the actor on Friday, September 15.
While Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Kelli Galaway told the judge the prosecution is ready for trial Wednesday, Majors’ attorneys said the two sides need to further address “gaps” in the discovery process, according to Deadline. Majors himself spoke only during the hearing to answer the judge’s questions, the newspaper reported.
A representative for the Manhattan district attorney’s office referred PEOPLE to the prosecution’s statements in court, “including that the people responded ready for trial.” Representatives for Majors did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Majors’ domestic violence case, stemming from his arrest in New York on March 25, was originally scheduled to go to trial on August 3. Belief III actor appeared in court last month along with his girlfriend Meagan Good, his lawyer Priya Chaudhry filed a motion to postpone the trial which the court accepted.

Following Majors’ court appearance last month, Chaudhry shared a statement with PEOPLE saying Majors filed his own domestic violence charges against the alleged victim in the case back in June and described his experiences as “an ongoing nightmare in their relationship.”
“For four agonizing months, Jonathan Majors, the true victim in this shameful ordeal, had his life, career and reputation destroyed,” the lawyer said at the time. “Yet he remains steadfast in his determination to be freed from this agonizing ordeal.”

At the time, a spokesman for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said in an email, “We look forward to presenting all the facts and evidence at trial.”

According to documents at the time of Majors’ arrest, the alleged victim in the case told police Majors “[struck] with an open fist on her face, causing severe pain and a laceration behind her ear”, as well as allegedly grabbing her by the arm and neck, “causing bruises and severe pain”.
One charge of strangulation initially leveled against the actor has since been dropped, as Diversity reported in August.
While Majors’ trial awaits a new date, the actor is expected to appear as a villain in the upcoming second season of Disney+’s Marvel Studios series. Lokiwhich begins showing on October 6.
