Josh Brolin Says He Sleeps with Nicotine Pouches in His Mouth, Uses Them '24 Hours a Day'

Josh Brolin said he uses nicotine patches – and even sleeps with them.

And as Brolin, 56, told Marc Maron on the Nov. 14 episode of his podcast WTF he is constantly using the bags after he stopped chewing tobacco and nicotine lozenges.

“My wife would hear this in the middle of the night,” Brolin said, mimicking the sound of chewing. “I don’t even know I’m doing it, I’m sleeping. I have a bag on my lips and I don’t lie, 24 hours a day.”

Nicotine pouches, as Yale Medicine explains, contain no tobacco and “fit between a person’s lip or cheek and the gums; the nicotine is absorbed into their bloodstream through the lining of the mouth.”

Brolin, who shared his struggle with addiction in his new memoir, Under the truck, he said he switched to the pouches after experiencing some bad side effects with nicotine lozenges.

“They taste like gasoline and are very strong,” he said of the lozenges. “But I used to keep them close to me between my gums and my teeth. I have seven cavities.”

“That’s why I switched to this,” he said brothers the star said, adding that he’s such a fan that he ended up using some questionable handbags while filming in the Middle East.

“We are in Jordan. AND [this guy] he comes to me, and says, ‘I have some.’ And it has a skull and crossbones on top.. And it’s a 40 milligram packet. And I said, ‘I can’t do that.’ ”

“And then one day I start to run out, and I haven’t quite used it up, I probably have four or five more cans [of my usual pouches] left. And I have his stuff in my pocket and I’m running out of the gym.”

He tried another can and said, “I’m not putting that thing in my mouth again, and I swear to God by my kids, no more than 20 seconds, and I had to cancel dinner that night. I was literally brainwashing myself. It was fucking crazy.”

He shared that he is so addicted, “I have them all over the house.”

While some people consider nicotine pouches safe, more research is needed — the pouches can cause long-term health effects such as throat and mouth cancer, dental problems such as tooth loss and discoloration, gastrointestinal problems and gum disease, according to scientists. Cleveland Clinic.

“I started taking them out and putting them on the nightstand,” Brolin said, adding that he was concerned about the bags found by his young children.

Along with his oldest children, Trevor Mansur (36) and Eden (29), who he shares with ex-wife Alice Adair, Brolin has daughters Westlyn Reign (6) and Chapel Grace (3) with wife Kathryn Boyd.

“If [my daughter] put in his mouth, he will get sick. And instead of stopping, I try to teach them, ‘Don’t do it.’ ”

“Stay out of daddy’s s—s,” Maron joked.

“Daddy needs it,” Brolin interjected.
