Josh Duhamel's 2 Kids: All About Sons Axl and Shepherd

Josh Duhamel is a proud boy, the father of his children Axl and Shepherd.

The transformers The star welcomed his eldest son, Axl, with his ex-wife, Fergie, in August 2013. The former couple married in January 2009 and finalized their divorce a decade later in November 2019. Duhamel married his wife, Audra Marie, in September 2022. . and the couple had a son, Shepherd, in January 2024.

Duhamel told Fatherly in January 2023 that his son Axl has brought “so much joy” to his life and that he has embraced his new stepmother.

“We will play catch in the yard. We did [my wife] a huge birthday card. He likes art. He’s 9 years old, but his imagination is still big,” said the Daytime Emmy winner. “He and I are like a bachelor couple. And then she comes along and brings so much structure to the house.”

Duhamel added, “They have the most beautiful relationship.”

Duhamel and Fergie welcomed their first and only child together, son Axl, on August 29, 2013. His parents named him after rocker Axl Rose.

The former couple spoke about their commitment to co-parenting Axl. In September 2023, Duhamel described his ex as “an amazing woman.” The Jess Cagle Show. He explained, “That’s the thing, you never know how these things are going to go … And luckily we have a really civil situation.”

Much like his father, Axl has shown an interest in acting, though Duhamel told Fatherly in January 2023 that his son will have to wait until he grows up to pursue it as a career.

“He loves it. He’s in his little theater class,” Duhamel explained. “He can do whatever he wants when he’s old enough. But he won’t be a child actor. He’s not going to audition or get an agent or anything until he can do it himself. I want him to be a child.”

Outside of acting, Axl is interested in sports.

“I didn’t think he’d ever get into it, but now he really likes basketball,” Duhamel told PEOPLE in March 2023. “He likes to play a little soccer with me. I try not to be overbearing with him in sports, but I try to let him he finds it, and not that I push him on him.”

In October 2023, Duhamel also scored major points with Axl when he met David Beckham. Alongside a photo with the former soccer star, Duhamel wrote: “Thank you @davidbeckham for making my son look cool. You are a good person.”

The A safe haven the star also shared her son’s reaction to the photo. In an Instagram video, Axl said: “Dad that’s so cool! You met David Beckham! Oh my god that’s so cool. I wish I could have met him.”

And Axl was excited to become a big brother. Duhamel spoke about his older son’s enthusiasm for the new family member during a guest appearance at Living with Kelly and Mark at the beginning of September 2023.

The actor explained: “He’s very excited. I don’t think he quite understands that it’s actually real. He will when he sees this little thing in front of him.”

Duhamel also said he thinks Axl becoming a big brother would be “good for him.”

“And now he will have part of the responsibility,” he said With love, Simon the actor explained. “Thrill. He will also be an excellent older brother. He’s a very good-natured kid who loves babies, so I think this is perfect in a way.”

Duhamel and Mari welcomed their first child together, son Shepherd, on January 11, 2024.

The couple announced they were trying in September 2023, a year after tying the knot in their home state of North Dakota.

Following his split from Fergie in 2017, Duhamel was open about his desire to have more children in the future. During an appearance on Dax Shepard’s podcast in December 2018 Armchair expert, the actor explained, “I’m not 30 anymore. I am 45 years old. I want to have more children in the next few years.”

Before the birth of their son, Duhamel and Mari had plans to leave the actor’s “bachelor apartment” and move into a real family home. The All My Children The alum told PEOPLE in September 2023 that the move was more Marino’s than his own idea, but he also showered her with praise.

“Audra is going to be an amazing mother,” Duhamel said. “We’ve both been looking forward to it for a very long time.”

The family of four got to spend their first holiday together in April 2024, and Mari shared a cute video of Shepherd on her Instagram stories at Easter. In the video, the newborn is wearing a yellow knitted set.
