Josh Lucas’ Girlfriend Shares Her Surprising Take on Sweet Home Alabama: ‘I’m Team Patrick Dempsey’

Josh Lucas’ girlfriend is rooting for only one romance in his life!

While talking to Hey! News at the premiere of Lucas’ new series, Palm Royaleon Thursday, Brianna Ruffalo revealed that she has a surprising opinion about her co-star’s 2002 romantic comedy. Sweet Home Alabamastarring Reese Witherspoon and Patrick Dempsey.

When asked how often she makes Lucas, 52, watch the movie again, the ABC7 Los Angeles anchor said they don’t watch it often, before revealing a surprising reason why.

“I’m Team Patrick Dempsey,” Ruffalo explained.

Jake promises to make the process difficult for Melanie, and along the way the pair fall in love again as Melanie reconnects with her Southern roots.

Ruffalo is in the minority rooting for Dempsey’s Andrew to get a girlfriend, and Lucas joked that it’s a bone of contention in their relationship.

“From day one, she said, ‘Oh yeah, you were the other guy,'” he said Hey! News. She said: ‘I didn’t like you because you stole her from Patrick’. ”

Ruffalo laughed, saying that her controversial opinion created a “constant problem” in their relationship.

The Yellowstone star called out his girlfriend, saying they once tried to watch a movie together, but “she fell asleep after 10 minutes and said, ‘I’m still Tim Patrick.’ ”

Off screen, Ruffalo is Lucas’ biggest fan.

On Friday, the day after Palm Royale premiere event, she posted pictures of the couple and the cast on the carpet on Instagram and praised Lucas and his work in the caption.

“Proud girl 💕. So excited for my darling @joshlucas and an absolutely STELLAR castf Palm Royale,” she wrote. “What a beautiful premiere last night with Josh’s family… can’t wait for everyone to see it on @appletv in just a few days 🤩 March 20th! Delighted after watching the first episode last night and I can’t WAIT to see more.”
