Joshua Jackson and Lupita Nyong’o Spotted at Janelle Monae Concert After Respective Splits

Joshua Jackson and Lupita Nyong’o have been seen together as they experience major changes in their love lives.

On Wednesday, Dawson’s Creek alum stepped out at Janelle Monáe’s concert in Los Angeles, where he was photographed with the Oscar winner and other friends. Photos released Thursday by TMZ show the pair standing close to each other in the audience. However, the two actors did not appear to be hanging out or cuddling with each other.

PEOPLE has reached out to reps for Jackson and Nyong’o for comment.

Jackson, 45, has been in the news recently after his wife Jodie Turner-Smith, who he has been married to for more than three years, filed for divorce in early October. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the breakup.

A source told PEOPLE that it was Turner-Smith’s idea to end the relationship after she “decided she was done.”

“They’re on very different paths in life,” the source said, later adding: “It turned into an unhealthy marriage that made her unhappy.”

Jackson has not publicly commented on the divorce. The exes have one child together – daughter Juno Rose Diana Jackson, born in April 2020.

As for Nyong’o, 40, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever the actress was romantically linked to Selem Maseke. They went public with their relationship in December 2022, and she last posted a birthday tribute to Maseke in late August. The Instagram post, captured by PEOPLE, appears to have been deleted.

Nyong’o took to Instagram on Thursday to announce their breakup. In the lengthy post, she noted that while “there are much more important things going on in the world right now,” she felt it was “necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly distance myself from someone I can no longer trust.”

“I found myself in a season of heartbreak over a love suddenly and devastatingly snuffed out by cheating,” she said.

Although Nyong’o felt the need to “run into the shadows and hide” amid her heartbreak, she said, “I remind myself that the amount of pain I feel is the measure of my capacity to love. And so, I choose to face the pain, gather the courage to I know my life exactly as it is and I believe that this too will pass.”

She shared the personal news “to keep it 💯, and hoping that knowing my experience might be helpful to someone else who is experiencing the grip of a broken heart and who is willing to try to escape the pain and miss the wisdom that comes from it. #Breakup.”

There were once rumors that Nyong’o was actually dating Monae – the artist she saw perform alongside Jackson on Wednesday night. The longtime friends have been thrust into the spotlight as potential lovers, but Nyong’o has stated that they are just platonic friends.

Nyong’o is “not surprised” by the rumours, she said Rolling stone: “She has [a] the magnetism they apparently picked up. She is so enigmatic. People are curious about mysterious people. I wasn’t surprised.”

The Oscar winner also said that she “doesn’t mind being associated with [Monae] in any capacity.”
