Rescue Cat Thought to Have Large Nose 'Actually Has Two Noses' Making Her 'a Real Rarity'

Warrington Adoption Center announced on its Facebook page that the cat is looking for its “home away from home”.

The cat in Great Britain was named Nanny McPhee because of her “big nose”, but the keepers soon realized that this was not the case at all.

On Thursday, Cats Protection Warrington adoption center shared on Facebook that the 4-year-old kitty — described as a “gentle lady who loves fuss and cuddles” — was brought into their care for reasons beyond her control.

“Nanny McPhee has unfortunately come into our care due to health and financial reasons from her previous owners. She is looking for her fur home,” the charity wrote.

But while she appeared to have a rather pointed nose, given her name, it turned out she “actually has two noses”, the charity revealed.

According to Senior Field Veterinary Officer Fiona Brockbank, the discovery that Nanny McPhee had two noses was “a first for us”, and her double nose was ultimately caused by a congenital abnormality, she told the BBC.

“This is a real rarity and luckily it doesn’t cause her any problems,” Brockbank said.

While “congenital malformations” are “not uncommon” in cats, Brockbank told the BBC, Nanny McPhee’s double nose can “either be inherited” or caused in utero. “We all fell in love with our unique one [cat]” added manager Lindsay Kerr, who said the cat was named after a fictional character who had a “famously deformed nose”.

“She has proven to be a gentle lady who loves to be fussed over and pampered and we hope her newfound fame means she will have no shortage of potential adopters. She really deserves a home where she can settle down and become the center of a loving family.”

As of Friday afternoon, Nanny McPhee was listed on Warrington Adoption Center’s website as “reserved,” meaning she may not be far from joining her new owners.

Elsewhere in the UK last month, Greenacres Rescue at Ebbs Acres Farm in Pembrokeshire rescued a puppy born with six legs and other anomalies.

A female spaniel puppy with six legs — named after Ariel Little Mermaid protagonist — was “surrendered to a local veterinarian’s office” on Sept. 27, according to the rescue, after being found in the parking lot of a home improvement store.

The rescue eventually began a “treatment plan” with vets and revealed in a later Facebook post that the pup was internally “normal.”

Ariel was eventually brought to her foster home, where she settled in “beautifully,” according to the shelter.
