Julia Fox Cut Her Own Hair to Channel Jim Carrey's Ace Ventura: 'Immediately Regretted It'

Julia Fox dared to make a bold beauty move for the new year.

At the premiere of his upcoming film in New York on January 16 Presence, the model-actress debuted a fresh new look. She cut her own hair, she told Page Six, and was inspired by Jim Carrey’s famous alter ego, Ace Ventura.

“I wanted Ace Ventura, like a slob, I don’t know, now I’m interested in it,” she told the publication on the red carpet.

The pet detective’s voluminous swish goes through multiple phases throughout the 1994 film — from quirky furry horns to neat, structured swing. In order for Fox to achieve any of Ventura’s iconic looks, she had to brave a major hair change.

“It’s been a long time coming. I’ve wanted to do it for a long time,” she said of her new persona. “And you know, sometimes in life you just have to take the plunge and do it. It’ll grow back, it’s just hair.”

Ahead of the premiere, Fox shared the moment she cut her own hair. Although she wrote with the video, “I immediately regretted it”, fans gave her a lot of support in the comments and said that she always looked good.

Prior to this new hairstyle, Fox had medium-length silver-purple hair.

While her new cut might shock anyone else, Fox is no stranger to bold style choices. In April, she shared her favorite fashion moments with PEOPLE — some of which included lots of skin, a ‘body bag’ and a ponytail.

Fox told PEOPLE that one of her favorite outfits so far in 2024 was her wedding-inspired outfit at the Thom Browne event at Sotheby’s in January, which featured a sheer white blush with ruffles, a plunging neckline dress that revealing her stomach and upper thighs, and black thongs. She finished off her fun spin on wedding fashion with white lace gloves and a small purse.

“I thought, great, I’m going to put the veil on and it’s going to cover my tit,” she said. “I just had little gloves and a bag, and the bag said, ‘Til death do us part’.”

She added: “Looking at the photo, I wish I could have made sure the thong wasn’t twisted, but it’s okay.”

A month before sitting down to the table with PEOPLE, Fox wore a fanciful see-through catsuit, all-sheer sequins and sequins oozing from her arms, wrists, back and ankles. She didn’t stop there – her hair mirrored the subtle silver color of her outfit, as did Fox’s makeup. She wore a bright silver color on her cheeks and both sides of her forehead.
