Julia Fox had hoped to appear in the highly anticipated Madonna biopic, which is currently on hiatus.

The Uncut gems The 33-year-old actress was a guest on Watch what’s happening live Sunday and answered the viewer’s question about spending time with the 65-year-old queen of pop.

Fox, who recently published a new memoir Down the drain, she said she and the “Like a Prayer” singer had dinner years ago at Carbone in New York with “some really awesome gay guys.” After that, she continued, “we kind of kept in touch.”

When Madonna began working on a biopic about her life, Fox said she “really wanted to cast” the icon’s longtime friend Debi Mazar, 59, who starred in the film Good guys as well as on the TV series Younger.

“I went over to her house and read to her and it was all very surreal,” Fox revealed of Madonna.

Last year, Entertainment Weekly announced that Fox was in talks to play Mazar, who reacted with delight to the news.

“I think she’s a beautiful, smart and very talented actress,” Mazar wrote of Fox in an Instagram caption that accompanied old photos of her as well as Madonna.

“Funny enough, she reminds me more of Madonna when we were young than me,” Mazar continued. “Obviously I would be flattered. I wish the best to all the girls auditioning. If you need dance moves or acting lessons, give me a call.”

Ozark Emmy winner Julia Garner has reportedly been cast as Madonna in a biopic.
