Julia Louis-Dreyfus Says It Was 'Super Challenging' to Be a Mom During Seinfeld Fame (Exclusive)

Julia Louis-Dreyfus talks about a difficult period in her career.

PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at the October 6 episode Be my guest with Ina Gartenin which Dreyfus will join host Ina Garten at her home in East Hampton, NY. The two ladies enjoy a country French omelet and discuss the 11-time Emmy winner’s rise to fame.

In the video, the barefoot contessa asks the actress: “What was the most difficult period in your career?”

Louis-Dreyfus recalls struggling to find work after her term Saturday night live from 1982 to 1985, saying she experienced “a one, two, three year period where I was really pounding the pavement.” She says she shot a pilot for a potential series during that time, “but then it didn’t make it to series.”

“The other challenge for me in my career has been juggling,” she tells Garten. “Because while I was making Seinfeldfor example, I gave birth to both of my children. Super challenging but also amazing because I was becoming very famous at the time and it really put it all into perspective.”

Louis-Dreyfus starred in the hit sitcom for all nine seasons from 1990 to 1998. She had her first son Henry (32) in 1992 with her husband Brad Hall, whom she married in 1987. Their second son Charlie (27) arrived a few years later, in 1997

“Yeah, well, let’s see. The first round, yeah. I was standing behind things, carrying boxes, etc. When I got pregnant the second time, nobody cared,” says Louis-Dreyfus. “It was like it wasn’t happening. We just kind of … I was in, I was out, and nobody said anything.”
