Julia Roberts Shines in Dazzling Jewels from Her New Chopard Collaboration

Few can light up the red carpet like Julia Roberts. And since teaming up with Chopard in 2021, the global ambassador has shone brighter than ever in the brand’s incredible jewels. (We’re still thinking about the 100+ carat yellow diamond she wore to the 2022 Cannes Film Festival).

And on Friday, at an intimate dinner at Château Marmont in LA, the actress and jeweler took their partnership to the next level with the debut of Roberts’ first collection created in collaboration with the brand. The Chopard x Julia Roberts collection began with an incredibly rare 6,225-carat emerald that was discovered in a Zambian mine in 2021. Chopard acquired the stone and named it “Chopard Insofu” (“insofu” means elephant in Bemba, the language of the people living in the region).

With such a special gem in her possession, Chopard co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele knew they had to do something big with it. Like, the great Julia Roberts.

“When I heard he was the biggest, I thought that’s the only way Caroline plays. She says, ‘If it’s not the biggest or the best, I don’t care,'” Roberts joked at an exclusive dinner to preview the collection.

The Oscar winner did not feel that working with such a precious stone was intimidating. “I was excited,” she told PEOPLE in an interview. “You know, they don’t just look at a stone and say it will be. They study it and look at it, from all angles, to see what it is you should be. It’s art.”

Scheufele said in a statement: “Collaborating with Julia on this capsule collection has been an incredible journey. From the moment we discovered Insofa Emerald, we knew it was a gem that could inspire greatness. This parura is proof of that inspiration, a combination of our shared passion for beauty, elegance and responsible luxury.”

The result is a ring, necklace and earrings, on which, along with emeralds, there are rubellites and turquoise, a stone that Roberts “cherishes”. “It’s a beautiful stone,” Roberts told PEOPLE of the reason he included turquoise. “I love the color blue, it has an earthy feel and feels so down to earth. It just looks beautiful.”

Roberts wore all three designs to the dinner with a white oversized button-down shirt, a black ruffled midi skirt and a black patent leather belt, all from the Carolina Herrera Fall Winter 2024 collection; Elton John also attended the launch party. (“She’ll be happy if she leaves dinner tonight with that necklace,” the music legend joked. “Because I’m sitting next to her and I’m keeping an eye on it.”)

Roberts also celebrated International Women’s Day during the evening. “Today is International Women’s Day. I don’t even know what day of the week it is, and I only know that because my oldest son, on our family message board, sent a message to me and his only sister: ‘I love you on this International Women’s Day. ‘” She raised her glass to the women in the room and said to the men: “And you gentlemen, raise us a little higher.”
