Julia Roberts Thinks Richard Gere’s Pretty Woman Character Edward Is Dead: ‘And Now She Runs His Business’

Julia Roberts predicts a bittersweet ending Pretty Womana love story from a fairy tale.

In a recent interview with CBS MorningThe 56-year-old rom-com queen was asked what she thought the iconic couple from the 1990 film – Vivian and Edward – would be doing these days.

Roberts’ answer will likely pierce the hearts of fans everywhere. “I think he died peacefully in his sleep of a heart attack, smiling,” she told host Gayle King of Edward, famously played by Richard Gere.

As for her sassy and resourceful character Vivian, Roberts thinks she would fit in Edward’s shoes. “And now she runs his business,” she said.

The Oscar winner also shared her “where are they now?” predictions for several of her other most memorable characters, including Daisy (and beau Charles) from Mystic pizza. “Let’s hope they’re still together and have a bunch of cute little kids,” she said, assigning them a happier fate than Edward and Vivian.

When King, 68, asked Fr My best friend’s weddingand whether Julianne’s unrequited love for Michael ever turned into a true romance, Roberts insisted the story ended just the way it should have.

“No, he’s married and faithful to his wife. And George and Julianne start a do-it-yourself show on HGTV and become terribly famous,” she joked, referring to her character’s gay sidekick, played by Rupert Everett.

Roberts also reflected on 1999 A runaway bridein which she and Gere, 74, reunited as the lover led the way.

“Maggie literally rides off into the sunset with Richard Gere after leaving four other men at the altar. What’s going on with her?” urged King.

“They stay together. He doesn’t die in this one. They stay together,” Roberts replied.

For her Notting Hill character Anne, Roberts imagines the world-famous actress has left Hollywood far behind to care for a large brood of children in London. “She’s retired. She’s got six kids and she’s amazingly kept her waistline,” she told King.

Anna has also traded in the glamorous film sets for quiet days behind the grocery store counter. “[William] still runs the bookshop and now there is a small knitting annex next to the bookshop which [Anna] run,” Roberts added.

Elsewhere in the interview, Roberts talked about her 21-year marriage to husband Danny Moder, calling him her “favorite man.”

“He’s so smart, kind and dynamic in the way he looks at the world and admires people. He’s just so strong and loving,” she enthused.

IN Today in the show earlier this month, Roberts praised Modero for being the “anchor” of their family, which includes twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter, 19, and son Henry Daniel, 16.

“It all starts with Danny Moder,” she explained. “[He is] our person and, in the most beautiful way, the captain of our ship.”

She said that her husband made her look at life in a completely new way. “For me, understanding how deeply emotional a life can really begin with him,” she noted.
