Julianne Hough isn’t letting internet trolls ruin her hot girl summer!
The Dancing with the stars The co-host, 35, admits she received a lot of “hateful comments” for an Instagram Reel she posted in early June of herself stretching in a bikini in a sauna.
“I was definitely like, ‘Oh, this looks really good. I’m going to put on a fun, sexy song,'” she tells PEOPLE exclusively, explaining that she just decided to shoot the video on the spur of the moment and there was no other motivation for it.
“And of course, I laughed so hard that I got more views on that post than anything else I’m talking about, like my book, for example.”

In the video, which was shot from different angles, Hough wore a brown bikini while stretching in a sauna. The caption — “Six Senses Sizzling Sauna Stretches 🤸♀️🧘♀️” — was a joke.
She tells PEOPLE she uses the sauna for its health benefits and stretches there because it keeps her muscles relaxed.
The interview was in partnership with Blender Bites (a company she invests in) for their newly launched Superberry Sport 1-Step Smoothie flavor, which is high in protein and made with “natural, pure, organic ingredients” to help active people like her focus on muscle recovery, according to the dancer.

The Free star says she found the comments on the video fascinating because of society’s double standards when it comes to criticizing women’s bodies.

“It’s like you can see men shirtless all the time and they’re in a sauna or a cold bath or whatever, and as soon as a woman does it in a bikini, it kind of changes the perspective, which is totally fine. I get that,” Hough continues.
But the multi-hyphenate won’t let strangers on the internet tarnish her self-esteem and body image.

“I’m a 35-year-old woman who’s proud of my body and it’s okay to put that out there,” she says.
She plans to wear swimsuits until the fall when she has lessons to learn proper swimming form.
