Julianne Moore's 2 Kids: All About Caleb and Liv

Julianne Moore balances her acting career with parenting her two children, Caleb Moore Freundlich and Liv Helen Moore Freundlich.

The May December the actress met her husband Bart Freundlich while he was directing her film The myth of fingerprints 1996. The couple welcomed Caleb in 1997 and Liv in 2002 – what she called “the happiest days of my life” – before tying the knot in 2003.

And while Moore continued to make time for her career, she also maintained flexibility in her work to accommodate her family’s schedule.

“I can’t go to Europe for four months during the school year,” she said Guard 2010. “Like any other working parent, I’m trying to figure out, ‘How do I work, how do I make myself available for soccer games, how do I make sure I’m home when everyone’s doing homework?’ So, if I come to work as a journalist in London, I come for two days and immediately return home.”

These days, both of the Moore children are grown, Cal works as a musician, and Liv is a recent college graduate. However, she always puts them first. “My family makes me the happiest,” Moore told PEOPLE. “It would be miserable without them.”

Moore and Bart welcomed their first child, Caleb, on December 4, 1997. Their first-born son became interested in music at a very early age.

“It definitely started with my parents,” he told Shoutout LA 2022. “They always wanted me to know how to play an instrument and so they were adamant about me learning it when I was young. They support me, whatever that sounds like.”

His music took a back seat in high school as he focused on playing basketball, which earned him a spot on the Davidson College team from 2016 to 2020, according to his website.

Caleb graduated from college in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We couldn’t be more proud of everything he’s accomplished in the last 4 years — graduating with honors, playing for @davidsonbasketball and getting into grad school… We love you so much Cal and are SO PROUD,” May December the actress shared on Instagram in 2020.

The budding musician earned a master’s degree in music from NYU Steinhardt and now works as a musician and adjunct professor teaching Music Production for Animation at the Fashion Institute of Technology, according to his LinkedIn.

Caleb’s website explains that he has written “music for a variety of projects, from documentaries and narrative films to animation, video games, and even webcomics.” In March 2024, he announced his first solo performance on Instagram.

As for his romantic life, Caleb proposed to his longtime love Kibriyaá in August 2024. “Pronounced FIANCE,” the musician wrote on Instagram alongside photos of the newly engaged couple.

Moore and Bart completed their family with the birth of daughter Liv on April 8, 2002. “I always tell my little girl that I remember laying in the bathtub when I was pregnant,” Moore told Guard 2008 “I say I wished and wished for a girl and I got her.”

In her youth, Liv followed her mother in the entertainment business and had roles in The Rebound (2009) and Trust the Man (2005).

Moore is protective of her daughter, who was 12 when the Sandy Hook school shooting happened. After the events of that day, Liv inspired Moore to become involved in gun control activism.

“I was so careful that day not to bring the news to her,” she explained to PEOPLE in 2018. “My idea was that I was trying to protect my child.” However, Liv heard the news anyway. “I was completely devastated. That was the moment I realized … that I wasn’t a responsible parent if I didn’t do something about gun violence.”

Moore took a leadership role on the creative council of Everytown for Gun Safety, and Liv was inspired to join the Students Demand Action chapter.

“My mom created a path for me to build my confidence and join the movement,” Liv told PEOPLE. “Watching her do this job since I was very young makes me very proud.” Both children joined their parents at a gun reform rally in Washington, DC in 2018.

Liv graduated from high school in 2020, and Moore was thrilled with her remarkable achievement. “We are so proud of all that she is and all that she has accomplished,” he said Boogie nights the star wrote on Instagram. “She’s smart, brave and kind, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.”

In 2017, she made her modeling debut for J.Crew and later starred in the Hourglass cosmetics campaign with Moore in 2022. “My girl, beautiful inside and out,” the actress captioned a photo for another mother-daughter campaign, this time for the jewelry brand Bvlgari.

The Dear Evan Hansen the star is head over heels for his mini-me. “I’ve raved about Liv since the day she was born and I’m impressed with how well she’s handling the world and how mature she is,” Moore said. Harper’s Bazaar 2022 as part of their Bvlgari partnership.

Moore once again boasted about her daughter when Liv graduated from Northwestern University in June 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in English.

“This smart, wonderful, beautiful and insightful young woman graduated from @northwestern. Let’s be proud @livfreundlich – congratulations on your achievement #wildcat. We love love love you,” the caring mom wrote on Instagram.
