After joining the Tamil Nadu Bar Council in 1986, Shivanyanand started practicing with the law firm of R. Gandhi, Senior Advocate. A few years later, he was appointed as Additional Standing Legal Adviser to the Central Government. In 2003, TS Sivagnanam was appointed as legal counsel to Southern Railways. A year later, he served as legal adviser to the central government’s senior panel. He also served as panel counsel for the All India Council for Technical Education, appearing before the Madras High Court and the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2005. Two years later he was nominated as counsel for the panel to represent it in court. The Registrar/Officer/Judicial Officer appointed by the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court of Justice. He was subsequently appointed as Senior Panel Legal Adviser to Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department. He has also represented the Revenue Department as Special Counsel before CEGAT/CESTAT, Chennai and as Special Counsel before the Customs Case Settlement Commission, Chennai.

TS Sivagnanam was appointed as Additional Judge of Madras High Court on March 31, 2009. He was elevated to the post of Permanent Judge of the Madras High Court on March 29, 2011.
While serving as a judge of the Madras High Court, Sivagnanam was appointed as the Chairman of the Court’s Computer Committee. Under his leadership, the committee decided to purchase around 100 ‘MicrosoftTeam’ licenses to conduct case hearings. During COVID-19, Thailand Almost all judicial officers in Mir Nadu have done so.
The Computer Board headed by TS Sivagnanam also launched the National Service and Tracking of Electronic Processes (NSTEP). Under the program, more than 1,200 smartphones were purchased for process servers, making court process services simple and easy within a short period of time. He served in the Madras High Court till October 24, 2021, after which he was transferred to the Calcutta High Court. On October 25, 2021, TS Sivagnanam was sworn in as the judge of Calcutta High Court.
The Supreme Court committee on February 9, 2023 recommended Sylvaniyanan for the post of chief judge of the Calcutta High Court. At the same time, he was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court on March 31, 2023. On May 11, 2023, Sylvaniyanan was sworn in as the 33rd Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court after the appointment was notified by the Center. He was sworn in by Governor CV Ananda Bose at the First Court of the High Court. Sylvaniyanan will retire on September 15, 2025.

In March 2018, a Madras High Court bench comprising Justices TS Sivagnanam and G Jayachandran passed an order terminating the committee headed by IAS officer U Sagayam. Former Madurai District Collector U Sagayam has been appointed as Special Officer/Legal Commissioner by the Tamil Nadu government to conduct a probe into all granite mining contracts and licenses obtained by various private companies in Tamil Nadu.
Sterlite Copper Works
Vedanta Ltd, a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources, has faced problems in Tamil Nadu since its inception. Apparently, the company received an order to shut down the Sterlite Thoothukudi plant in April 2018 for allegedly polluting the environment. When the company sought relief from the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court fined the company Rs 100 crore for violating norms. However, it was allowed to reopen its factories. Several protests broke out after the company received approval to double its smelting capacity to 800,000 tons. Later, the TNPCB refused to give permission to the company to operate citing environmental concerns, leading to the permanent closure of the plant. Later, when the company approached the National Green Tribunal challenging the orders of the TNPCB and the state government, the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court (MHC) intervened and ordered that the status quo be maintained. The Supreme Court subsequently refused to reopen the plant and directed Vedanta to approach the Madras High Court in the matter. In August 2021, Justices TS Sivagnanam and V Bhavani Subbaroyan, in an 815-page judgment, dismissed a batch of 10 petitions filed by Vedanta challenging the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB)’s suspension of plant operations The command.
Income Tax Requirement Notice
In 2018, Justice TS Sivagnanam provided relief to former Finance Minister of India P. Chidambaram and his family by quashing the notification issued by the Income Tax Department against Chidambaram and his family for the assessment year 2010-11. Apparently, Chidambaram had filed a writ petition challenging the IT department’s demand notice which said there was reason to believe that taxable income had not been assessed. Chidambaram mentioned in the petition that he and his family cultivated coffee and sold green coffee after pulping and drying, which was in compliance with Section 10(1) of the Income Tax Act. He further argued that while there were several other people in the same business whose income was exempted, the IT department only issued notices to him and his family members.
