Jwala Gutta was born on Wednesday, September 7, 1983 in Wardha, Maharashtra (40 years; as of 2023). After her birth, her family moved to Hyderabad, Telangana. Her zodiac sign is Virgo.
When Jawara was just 4 years old, her father introduced her to national badminton coach SM Arif. The coach asked her to learn gymnastics and swimming before starting badminton training. Later, she received badminton training with Arif at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium.

Jwala started playing badminton at the age of 6. She won the Under-13 Girls Mini National Badminton Championship in Thrissur, Kerala. At the age of 17, Guta won the National Youth Badminton Championship. She then partnered with Shruti Kurien to win the National Youth Badminton Women’s Doubles Championship and the National Senior Badminton Championship. The cooperation between the two lasted for several years, and they won the women’s doubles national championship for 7 consecutive years (2002 to 2008). However, the two later broke up their long-term partnership due to compatibility issues.
Thereafter, Jawala was paired with Ashwini Ponnapa from Bengaluru. The pair went on to win the women’s doubles gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Making history as India won its first gold medal in the event. After this incident, the ancient pagoda became a household name.
She brought recognition to doubles badminton in India. In 2010, she partnered with Diju in mixed doubles and achieved the highest score in the competition. 6; Became the first domestic doubles team to rank among the top ten.
In 2016, Jawara partnered with Poonapa to participate in the Rio Olympics. They lost two consecutive games to Japan and the Netherlands in the group stage and were eliminated from the group. She has won medals in almost every major international badminton competition except the Olympics.
