Zach Edey was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on May 14, 2002. This 7-foot-4, 305-pound basketball player is of mixed ethnicity and holds Canadian citizenship. The Leaside High School graduate has not spoken publicly about his religion, although he is believed to be a Christian. Edey was never a basketball fan, preferring baseball and ice hockey. At the 2021 FIBA U19 World Basketball Championship, he averaged 15.1 points and a tournament-high 14.1 rebounds, leading Canada to a bronze medal. He won a bronze medal and a spot at the 2024 Summer Olympics while playing for coach Jordi Fernández at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
