KP Singh is an Indian businessman and real estate tycoon. He is the Chairman Emeritus of Delhi Land and Finance (DLF) Real Estate Company. Singh is one of India’s most successful and influential business leaders, known for his pioneering role in transforming the Indian real estate market and leading DLF to the pinnacle of success.

Kushal Pal Singh Tewatia was born on Sunday, November 15, 1931, in Bulandshahr, United Provinces, British India (now Uttar Pradesh, India) (age 91; as of 2022). After completing his education at Bulandhshahr, Kushal Pal pursued B.Sc from Meerut College, Uttar Pradesh. Kushal later moved to England where he studied aeronautical engineering.

After studying aeronautical engineering in the UK, Singh appeared for the Indian Military Academy entrance examination in the UK and was subsequently selected into the Indian Army by the British Officers Service Selection Board. In 1951, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Deccan Cavalry (9th Cavalry). Singh was later promoted to the rank of captain and served until 1960.

DLF

In 1960, Kushal Pal Singh joined the American Universal Electric Company, which later merged with DLF, a real estate company founded by his father-in-law in 1946. After the merger, Kushal joined DLF as managing director. Singh later established the DLF city in Gurgaon (now known as Gurugram) by acquiring land from farmers. On October 1, 2013, he was appointed as a director of DLF. Later, he was appointed chairman of the company; he retired on June 4, 2020. During his leadership, he built various earthquake-resistant infrastructure in Gurgaon, including offices, shopping malls and other leisure facilities. In 2007, under Singh’s leadership, the company held an initial public offering (IPO), raising approximately $2.24 billion, becoming one of India’s most notable IPOs.

In April 2016, KP Singh and his family members, including Rajiv Singh (son), Indira Singh (wife) and Pia Singh (daughter), were included in the Panama Papers, a collection of 11.5 million documents created by a Panamanian corporate services provider Confidential Documents Mossack Fonseca Mossack. Kushal Pal is reportedly linked to an offshore company registered in the British Virgin Islands, which is reportedly used for real estate investments in London. According to the law firm Mossack Fonseca, Kushal has registered himself as a politically exposed person and purchased several shares with his wife in a company called Wilder Limited. According to leaked reports, his son and daughter set up two more offshore companies in the British Virgin Islands. It is estimated that Singer and his wife purchased shares worth $676,400 and $714,400 respectively. Responding to the allegations against him, Kushal said overseas investments did not violate the guidelines laid down by the Reserve Bank of India.
