Kailash Kher started his career by singing a song for Nakshatra Diamonds. He has since sung for radio and television commercials for brands such as Coca-Cola, Citibank, Pepsi-Cola, IPL and Honda Motorcycle. He made his Bollywood debut as a singer in the film “Andaaz (2003)”, singing the song “Rabba Ishq Na Hove”. He made his debut as a music director with the film Vaah! Life is full of love! - At the age of 14, Kailash left home to seek out a guru or institution to gain professional training in classical and folk music.
- At the same time, he started offering music lessons to young children at a fee of Rs. 150/time. He uses this money for daily expenses such as food, shelter, clothing, etc.
- After months of searching for a master or school, Kailash could not find one and he began to learn music by listening to it. He listened to Pandit Kumar Gandharv, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Gokulotsav Maharaj Gokulotsav Maharaj and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He considered them his true teachers.
- While in college, he formed a choir called “Swar Trishna” with the students of Janki Devi Memorial College, Delhi. The group won first place in all competitions at the University Arts Festival.
- When he couldn’t find success in the music industry, he tried his handicraft export business in 1998. Unfortunately, he suffered huge losses, which left him depressed and even to the point of committing suicide.
- He then went to Singapore and Thailand, where he stayed for six months.
- After returning home in 2001, his friends in the music industry recommended him to musician Ram Sampath, who was looking for a new voice for Nakshatra Diamonds’ songs. The ad didn’t bring him much fame but it fetched him Rs. 5000.
- Kailash has a rare original, soulful, fresh, high-pitched and sharp voice. Unlike others, he mainly sang ghazal, sufi, qawawali, ballads and other religious songs.
