Kalyan Banerjee is an Indian politician and a senior member of the All India Trinamool Congress. He has served three consecutive terms as a member of Congress; 2009-2014, 2014-2019 and 2019 to present.

In 1991, he was appointed the vice-president of the West Bengal Youth Congress and served as its president until 1997. In 1998, he was appointed as the Secretary General of the West Bengal Trinamool Congress. In 2001, he contested the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections from Asansol constituency on behalf of the All India Trinamool Congress Party. He won the election by a margin of 2,213 votes, defeating Goutam Roychoudhury of the Communist Party of India. From 2007 to 2009, he served as Vice Chairman of the All India Trinamool Congress Party.

In 2009, he was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from Srerampur constituency on behalf of the All India Trinamool Congress Party. On August 31, 2009, he was appointed as Chairman of the Standing Committee of Coal and Steel. During his time as an MP, he served as a member of several parliamentary committees such as the Home Office Advisory Committee, Member of the Privileges Committee, Member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee where he examined matters related to resource allocation and pricing. Abuse of political power as an advocate
In January 2022, 157 lawyers of the Calcutta High Court collectively wrote to the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, the Chief Justice of West Bengal HC Prakash Shrivastava and the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, in which they accused Kalyan Banerjee of insulting female lawyers. , giving unjust privileges to certain people in exchange for unexplained benefits, and abusing his political power. On December 19, 2023, Kalyan Banerjee was accused of taunting Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar inside the Parliament complex during opposition protests against the suspension of MPs. Kalyan allegedly made fun of the way Dhankar leaned forward while walking, and Rahul Gandhi was seen filming the video. Later, lawyer Abhishek Gautam filed a complaint with the Defense Colony Police, accusing Kalyan of insulting and defaming the Vice President of India, his caste and his peasant background, and demanded due treatment under the Constitution of India.
