Kanu Priya was born in Noida, Uttar Pradesh in 1969 (at the age of 52). Growing up in Noida, Kanu Priya soon developed an interest in spirituality. She often discussed various aspects of spirituality with her family and friends and later became one of the popular personalities on television, hosting many spirituality-based shows. She studied at Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, and obtained a Master of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.

She started her career as an actress and has acted in over 80 serials and 50 television films, including Bhanwar (1998-99), Kahi Aek Gaon, Meri Kahani, Kartavya, Tesu Ke Phool, Tumhara Intezar Hai (2002), Anaro, Ranjishen, Ab Aur Nahi and Sur Sargam. Apart from acting in television serials and television films, she has also acted in many theatre productions.
In 2002, Kanu Priya starred in Tumhaara Intezaar Hai on ETV Urdu.

Later, she hosted a spiritual show on the Aastha channel for seven to eight years. In an interview, Kanu Priya revealed that she never thought of becoming a TV anchor. She said,
I’m really good at talking (laughs), so I became a host. I always loved taking information and being able to string it together and pass it on to people. I never set out to be a host; it just happened, and even as a host I got involved in a lot of other things. In the early 90s, hosting was more formal, and now it’s more informal because that’s the trend. It’s just a conversational flow of ideas.”
Kanu Priya rose to fame after hosting the television shows Awakening with Brahma Kumari, which had a profound impact on the audience, and Karmabhoomi, a show that focused on young leadership. In an interview, while talking about Karmabhoomi, she said:
‘Karmbhoomi’ is an innovative, socially responsible concept for the youth with a vision of 2020. Basically, it aims to develop leaders who will inspire the youth to take the path of self-improvement and decision-making by 2020. The series has six protagonists who believe that they can change the world. Each of them will tackle a different issue like feminism, body image issues, creating awareness about mental health among the youth, addressing various ageing issues, creating regenerative products, adverse effects of social pressures and creating awareness about environmental issues. We will go to every university, every college with our Karmbhoomi leaders. It’s all about the how, what and why. All we want to do is develop leaders who can inspire others.”

In June 2005, Kanu Priya founded Gul Guncha Arts, a production house in Noida. In its early days, the production house focused on making documentaries and short films. In 2011, the company started producing talk shows and semi-fictional series including ITZz MY LIFE (on NDTV Imagine), Simply Pure Bites (on Saadhna), Call Mitra (on News24) and New Age Parenting (on Headlines Today). Since 2015, the production house has created a number of fictional series including Karmbhoomi (on Bindass channel), The Desi K’s (with over 20 million views on YouTube) and Ardhsatya – Jeevan Ke Rahasya (for Dish TV’s OTT platform ‘Watcho’).

On April 30, 2021, Kanu Priya passed away due to COVID-19. Sister BK Shivani of Brahma Kumaris shared the news of Kanu Priya’s death on Instagram. She shared a photo of Kanu Priya and wrote:
Om Shanti Angel…last night a very beautiful angel, a chosen angel of God…Sister Kanupriya left her mortal body to go on to another miraculous destiny of spreading happiness and health to millions of souls. Kanupriya was a pure soul, loving, compassionate, selfless…always a giver. She lived for a higher purpose…creating a beautiful world…we know that even though the attire will change…she will always be an angel of God and her every life will be subject to His will and His mission of creating a new era. Let us all meditate together and express gratitude and blessings to her…thank you for your beautiful soul and thank you for who you are and will always be.”
