Kanye West, who has faced backlash over repeated anti-Semitic comments, issued a public apology in Hebrew on Tuesday for his actions.
“I sincerely apologize to the Jewish community for my unplanned outburst caused by my words or actions, it was not my intention to hurt or belittle and I deeply regret any pain I may have caused,” read his statement, which was shared by Instagram. (and translated into English).
“I am committed to starting from myself and learning from this experience to ensure greater sensitivity and understanding in the future,” Yeezus the artist, 46, continues.
Before concluding, he added that it was “important” for me to be forgiven and that he was “committed to repairing the damage and promoting unity.”
West’s statement came two weeks after TMZ released a video of the “Famous” rapper making anti-Semitic comments during a 10-minute rant while at a private event in Las Vegas.
The announcement comes days before West is reportedly set to release new music.

“After causing untold damage by using his enormous influence and platform to poison countless minds with vicious anti-Semitism and hatred, an apology in Hebrew could be the first step in a long journey toward redemption for the Jewish community and all those he has hurt,” Anti-Defamation League, a non-profit advocacy organization, told CNN in response to West’s statement.
“Ultimately, actions will speak louder than words, but this initial act of remorse is welcome,” the organization said in a statement.

In late November, West made a surprise appearance in Dubai during Lil Durk’s concert alongside Ty Dolla $ign at Blu Dubai. West performed his new song “Vultures,” in which he raps, “How am I anti-Semitic? I just fucked a Jewish bitch.” He shared the video from his performance on the nightclub’s Instagram Stories.

After Adidas parted ways with West, the brand said his “recent comments and actions were unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”
At the time, Gap also released a statement confirming that his “recent remarks and conduct” were grounds for termination. “Anti-Semitism, racism and hatred in any form are inexcusable and not tolerated in accordance with our values.”
