Karen Gillan is pregnant!
On Friday, September 6, the 36-year-old Guardians of the Galaxy star debuted her baby bump on the Toronto International Film Festival red carpet at the premiere of her latest film, Chuck’s life.
In photos from the event, Gillan can be seen wearing a yellow dress while holding her stomach and smiling alongside stars including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tom Hiddleston and Stephen King as she attended the event at the Princess of Wales Theatre.
Gillan has been married to husband Nick Kocher since May 2022, and announced the news of their wedding on social media last year. This will be the couple’s first baby together.
Representatives for Doctor Who alum did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Gillan, who previously revealed she met her husband through her “recommended Instagram friends list”, secretly married him in May 2022 in Castle Toward, Scotland. And as she told Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos on Living with Kelly and Mark in 2023 an “algorithm” merged the two.
Although Kocher initially did not respond, Gillan eventually found him on X (formerly Twitter) and sent him a private message there. “I sent him a DM on Twitter saying, ‘Hi, your tweets are really funny. By the way, I’m Karen,’ Ripi and Consuelos recalled. “It wasn’t very interesting. I didn’t really read his tweets.”
The pair have kept their relationship relatively private over the years, but Kocher has continued to join Gillan at public events including the series premiere Catch-22 in 2019, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 2023 and the Golden Globes after party in 2024.

Karen Gillan reveals she met her husband on Instagram: ‘I got into his DMs’
Speaking to PEOPLE in April, when asked “who fell first” in their relationship, Gillan admitted that she “went in for the kill.”
“Then I said, ‘Wait, I missed the part where they kiss me, so now you’re going to have to work a little.’ So I would tell him, even though I made the first move,” she said.

Gillan’s latest film Chuck’s life — which also stars Mia Sara, Carl Lumbly, Benjamin Pajak, Jacob Tremblay and Mark Hamill — is a 2020 adaptation of Stephen King’s novella. On his X account, King described it as “one of the good ones.”
“It is sad, it has a touch of the paranormal, but it is also cheerful and full of life,” the author wrote. “Maybe not what you’d expect from me, but there you go.”
The Toronto International Film Festival takes place from September 5 to 15.
