Kate Hudson Says Performing Songs During ‘Intimate’ Aspen Concert Was ‘Fun’ and ‘Challenging’ (Exclusive)

Kate Hudson is a certified triple threat!

While speaking exclusively with PEOPLE about her new partnership with MyFitnessPal, a health and fitness tracker, the 44-year-old actress also talks about her first concert performance, which took place Dec. 28 at Bad Harriet in Aspen, Colorado.

Ahead of Hudson’s plans to release her debut album, the star performed a variety of covers, including a bluesy rendition of Chris Stapleton’s “White Horse” as well as her own version of Patty Griffin’s “When It Don’t Come Easy.” gathering.

“I really liked the little show we did,” Hudson says. “It was so much fun and very intimate, and it was really good for me. It was really unforgiving.”

“That small environment, where everyone was there, was really fun and challenging for me — I just loved it,” she adds.

Kate Hudson held her first concert in her ‘hometown’, promised to ‘sing, play and love’ in 2024.

Earlier this month, Hudson shared a series of photos and videos from a music event in Aspen on Instagram.

In the first picture, Almost famous the star was captured behind the microphone smiling in a floral dress. The following video shows Hudson flaunting her soulful vocals on a cover of Sinéad O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

The mother of three also shared a video of herself performing a playful cover of Dua Lipa’s hit “Dance the Night” from Barbie soundtrack, and later shared a stripped-down cover of Ryan Adams’ “Come Pick Me Up” on the carousel.

Before performing Tom Petty’s “You Don’t Know How It Feels” in her latest video, Hudson joked with the audience, telling them, “It’s interesting in an intimate space because you’re all staring at me. I’m used to my living room, where no one stares at me. Let’s do it.”

Alongside the post on Instagram, Hudson shared a caption looking ahead to the year 2024.

“Well, on the eve of the new year, I say come 2024!” she started. “I vow to sing and play and love and sing and love some more! 🎶 Life is too short not to lean on the things you love. Art is art and more art.”

“The fun of those places and outlets where we can get lost in. We need that and I’m here for that,” Hudson continued. “So here’s to looking forward, not back. I love you all and hope you’ll join me on this adventure because the wind blows and I go with it ❤️ HAPPY NEW YEAR! Please be safe and loving everyone 💫. ”

“(Thank you @hoteljeromeauberge for the Bad Harriet night which was an absolute blast. Being in my hometown and having a fun and joyful first gig was dreamy),” she added, giving a shout out to the venue that hosted her music debut.

Hudson first revealed her plans to record an album in April 2022, when she shared a photo on Instagram of herself singing in a rehearsal space.

“Finally realized it’s time to say f#%! that and saaaannngg!!!!! #albumincoming #myikigai 🎶 🎤,” the Fabletics co-founder wrote in the caption of the post, seemingly referring to the music as her “ikigai,” or Japanese concept which translates to “reason for existence”.

Later that December, Huson spoke about how the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic helped fuel her musical ambitions as she was determined to live her life without regrets.

“You know, I had that thing [during] COVID … Every time you give interviews, people ask: ‘Do you have any regrets?’ I say, ‘I’m in my early 40s… not yet.’ But during COVID, I was like, ‘You know, what am I doing?’ ” she said during a guest appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

She then told host Jimmy Fallon that she’s been a songwriter since she was 19 but has “never shared” her work, explaining: “I just thought that would be one of my big regrets. I have no expectations. I just want to put on a record, and I that’s what I’m doing. And I’m really proud of it. I can’t wait.”
