Princess Anne’s son said the Prince and Princess of Wales are gracefully managing public life and parenting Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis
Peter Phillips is full of praise for Kate Middleton and Prince William.
Princess Anne’s son, 46, spoke about the strong bond the Prince and Princess of Wales share in a new interview with Sky News Australia, previously recorded and published after Princess Kate announced on Friday that she was being treated for cancer.
In the headquarters with Royal Report, Peter praised the partnership between his cousin Prince William, 41, and his wife, 42, noting how they balance public life with parenting Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Peter described the “outpouring of support” for King Charles and Princess Kate amid news of their health in recent months as “extremely encouraging” and praised Princess Kate as “extraordinary in her own right”.
“Without a doubt she is. She and William make a fantastic team together. Their children are great and they have a balance between public life and trying to be parents to three young children, which is always difficult,” said Peter.

King Charles ‘frustrated’ by cancer treatment ‘forces’ him to work harder, nephew Peter Phillips says
“I think they got it pretty well, because you know, as history has taught us, and everybody knows, you want to be there for your kids when they get to a certain age. You want to be able to drop them off at school, and pick them up from school, and watch their games, to be a part of their school lives. I think that balance between family life and public life, I think they’ve succeeded quite well,” he added.
Presenter Caroline Di Russo said the challenge of living in the public eye must make “family moments and those quiet moments and even when the extended family gets together” even more important, and father-of-two Peter agreed.
“It is, absolutely. We’re very lucky that even though we probably don’t see each other as much as we’d like, as you say, when we’re together, it’s a very important time. It’s not just for us as cousins, but it’s also important that all of our children be together,” he said. “When my grandparents are there [Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip] were alive, it’s about being able to spend time with their great-grandchildren. These times are important… family time together is so important and just strengthens that supportive bond that everyone needs, and certainly in difficult times it’s really important.”

Peter’s comments about the strength of Prince William and Princess Kate echo the insight of Queen Elizabeth’s former press secretary, who said the Prince of Wales would be an “anchor” for his children amid his wife’s cancer treatment.
“He will be an anchor for his children,” Ailsa Anderson tells PEOPLE exclusively of Prince William, who is now expected to marvel at how he works, much like he has since Kate was admitted to the hospital for her first abdominal surgery in January .
Anderson adds that the timing of the public announcement, which was not made until Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, were out of school for the Easter holidays, shows the couple’s focus on their family.
“They protect their children. First of all, they think of their well-being,” she explains.
