Kate Middleton could talk about her health when she returns to public duty, according to a new report.
The Princess of Wales’ absence since abdominal surgery on January 16 has led to widespread speculation about her condition. Earlier this week, rumors escalated after Kensington Palace released an edited photo of the royal family with her three children on Mother’s Day in the UK, for which Kate apologized.
On Saturday, The Sunday Times quoted insiders close to Kate, 42, and Prince William, 41, as indicating they expect the couple to share details about the royal’s surgery and recovery, but will do so on their own timetable and terms.
“They are most open when they are out interacting with members of the public and I can see a world where the princess could talk about her recovery outside of the engagement,” a royal source told the new paper. “If she was going to do it, that’s how she would do it.”
The friend added: “They’ll want to be clear and open, but they’ll do it when they feel ready. I would expect it to be her instinct and it will be her decision. They will not be rushed.”

Kensington Palace first announced on January 17 that Kate had undergone “planned abdominal surgery” and would be out of royal duties until Easter.
The palace reiterated that statement a few weeks ago when a royal spokesman said: “We have been very clear from the outset that the Princess of Wales is out until Easter and that Kensington Palace will only provide updates when there is something significant.”
A friend who is said to have been in contact with the royal couple amid Kate’s recovery told the British publication: “It’s not that they didn’t think there would be a lot of speculation and interest, but they were confident that people would give them the space they wanted, which they did for about a month days.”
The Sunday Times also reports that Kate’s potential return date may not be until April 17, which coincides with the end of her children’s school holidays. In addition, Kate has reportedly been seen at Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ school, Lambrook, in recent weeks.
Palace addresses rumors and conspiracy theories about Kate Middleton’s health in a new statement
According to The Sunday Timesa source cited the moment when Prince William pulled out of a ceremony honoring his godfather, King Constantine of Greece in late February, as the turning point when the public began to question everything about the princess’s absence.
“He had no choice but to withdraw, but the reaction was disappointing,” the source said. “It blew everything up with people’s eagerness to know what was going on. He is not in ‘blame the media’ mode. He’s just really upset that his wife has to go through all this with her recovery and then have to think about making a statement about a family photo.”

The outlet reports that Kate felt “devastated” by the controversy sparked by the photo, which was pulled from circulation by the Associated Press and several other news organizations for apparent manipulation.

Despite the scandal the photo has caused, William and Kate are expected to release a new family photo of their youngest son, Prince Louis, for his 6th birthday on April 23, but have not yet decided whether Kate will take the photos herself or use a professional photographer.
“They appreciate the public’s love and affection for their children and know that there is a public appetite to see them on their birthdays,” the aide said. The Sunday Times.
