Kate Middleton made a rare comment about what helped her during her cancer treatment during a surprise hospital stop where she received care.
On Tuesday, January 14, the Princess of Wales, 43, visited the Royal Marsden Hospital in London to meet patients undergoing treatment and staff at the centre. The emotional outing was Princess Kate’s first solo engagement since the end of 2023, as she spent most of 2024 out of the spotlight after announcing she was being treated for cancer last March.
Princess Kate’s latest appearance came amid news that she was receiving treatment at the Royal Marsden, and she also spoke about what gave her comfort. (The Princess of Wales announced in September 2024 that she was “relieved” to have completed chemotherapy.)
Commenting on the importance of self-care during and after the treatment, Princess Kate said: “I really felt like I needed to be exposed to the sun. You need a lot of water and a lot of sunlight.” Daily Mail reported.

According to the media release, the royal made a similar comment when a woman’s machine started beeping during their conversation, which meant the patient needed treatment.
“I recognize that beep!” said the Princess of Wales.

After hearing about one man’s diagnosis, Kate said: “The body is amazing when it tells us, ‘You need to take a break’.” Daily Mail reported.
The Princess of Wales’ exit coincided with the announcement that she and Prince William are now joint patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The position gives Princess Kate a formal role at the world-renowned cancer center that her husband has supported as patron since 2007, a role previously held by his late mother, Princess Diana.

While Princess Kate said she made “a lot of quiet, private visits” to the Royal Marsden when she entered on January 14, a Kensington Palace spokesman said she felt compelled to make a public visit to the medical centre.
“The Princess wanted to take the trip to show her gratitude to the incredible team, but also to highlight the world-leading care and treatment that Marsden provides,” a palace spokesman said.
