Kate Middleton Seen on Video for First Time on Shopping Trip with Prince William amid Surgery Recovery

Kate Middleton was seen on video for the first time in months while shopping with Prince William over the weekend.

On Monday, TMZ released video of the couple’s visit to the Windsor Farm Shop on Saturday. The 40-second clip shows Prince William, 41, and Princess Kate, 42, wearing casual clothes and each carrying a shopping bag. Princess Kate smiles and chats with her husband as they walk through the parking lot.

The sighting marks the first time the Princess of Wales has been seen in public since Kensington Palace announced she had “planned abdominal surgery” on January 16.

During the weekend, Sun reported that Princess Kate looked “happy, relaxed and healthy” during her visit to the Windsor Farm Shop. The publisher said the Prince and Princess of Wales stopped by the local shop, which is a mile and a half from their Adelaide Cottage home, on Saturday.

“Kate was shopping with William and she looked happy and she looked good,” an onlooker told the magazine.

Until William and Kate’s children, Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (5) went shopping, Sun reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales also spent part of the weekend watching their children play sports.

It’s no surprise that the Prince and Princess of Wales are keeping their three children on schedule, as Kensington Palace’s initial statement about Princess Kate’s surgery expressed her desire to “maintain as much normalcy as possible for her children” during this time.

Kate has been seen traveling by car twice in recent weeks, first on March 4 with mother Carole Middleton and last Monday with Prince William.

PEOPLE knows Princess Kate went on a private date while the Prince of Wales stepped out with the royals for the annual Commonwealth Day celebrations at Westminster Abbey last Monday.

The release came on the same day the Princess of Wales released a surprise statement on social media over “any confusion” surrounding her Mother’s Day photo after multiple global photo agencies pulled the image due to suspected tampering.

A palace insider downplayed the PR crisis, exclusively telling PEOPLE that while the situation is “a bump in the road, it’s not an earthquake.”

However, Mark Borkowski, a public relations and crisis communications expert based in London, tells PEOPLE that in trying to share a new image with the public, the palace has not calmed concerns — “in fact, it has only made it worse.”

“Now some people are wondering if it’s all AI generated or if it’s Photoshopped photos. It’s not something you want a royal brand to be aligned with,” he says.

Kate could talk about her health when she returns to public office, according to a new report.

On Saturday, The Sunday Times quoted insiders close to Kate and Prince William as indicating that they expect the couple to share details about the royal’s surgery and recovery, but will do so on their own timetable and terms.

“They are most open when they are out interacting with members of the public and I can see a world where the princess could talk about her recovery outside of the engagement,” a royal source told the new paper. “If she was going to do it, that’s how she would do it.”

The friend added: “They’ll want to be clear and open, but they’ll do it when they feel ready. I would expect it to be her instinct and it will be her decision. They will not be rushed.”
