Kate Middleton's Medical Records Involved in Security Breach After Hospital Staff Attempted Access: Report

The report comes a day after the Princess of Wales was seen on video for the first time following abdominal surgery in January

An investigation has reportedly been opened at the hospital that treated Kate Middleton for abdominal surgery in January.

According to Mirror, at least one member of staff at the London Clinic in Marylebone, London attempted to illegally access the Princess of Wales’ medical records. This comes amid speculation about Kate’s condition following the operation.

When contacted by PEOPLE, a Kensington Palace spokesperson said, “This is a London Clinic matter.”

The London clinic has not yet responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Per Mirror, the source said “senior hospital bosses” had alerted the palace to the security breach and noted that a thorough investigation would follow.

“This is a major safety lapse and incredibly damaging to the hospital, given its impeccable reputation for treating members of the royal family,” the source said, later adding: “The entire medical staff were left completely shocked and distraught by the allegation and were very hurt that a trusted colleague could allegedly be responsible for such a breach of trust and ethics.”
