Years later A simple life catapulted Paris Hilton to stardom, her mother, Kathy Hilton, isn’t afraid to admit she wasn’t supportive of the show at first.
PEOPLE caught up with the family matriarch, 65, at the 2025 WWD Style Awards on Friday, Jan. 3, where she reflected on her daughter’s reunion with Nicole Richie for the three-part Peacock series Paris & Nicole: Encore.
The reunion took place 17 years after the end A simple lifewhich aired from 2003 to 2007 and followed Hilton’s 43-year-old daughter and her childhood friend, also 43, as they traveled across the US to pick up odd jobs before entering the corporate world.

As for the show’s reincarnation, in which the dynamic duo tried to turn their iconic song “Sanasa” into an opera, Hilton says she believes it was “so hysterical.”
“I mean, I was a part of it, so it was a lot of fun. They [Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie] they’re so funny together,” she tells PEOPLE.

The The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star agrees that taking part in the new series was also “very nostalgic”.
“I did. It was great. It was really great. I wasn’t up for it at first, so I made a mistake. I made a mistake,” she says, admitting that she held it above her head.
Filming the reunion special was an equally rewarding experience for Paris, who recently told PEOPLE that she enjoyed reconnecting with fans about the series.

“It’s so much fun just watching all the videos, especially on TikTok, of people recreating different scenes from the show and using different sounds from it. It’s always fun every Halloween to see everyone dressing up as Nicole and me and their different takes on all of our different looks,” Paris said.
“It was really special to be in touch with so many fans and on social media and hear from them how much A simple life what it meant to them, how it really shaped their personality and who they are, and how much they really love Nicole and my friendship,” she continued. “It was really, really cool to connect with so many fans around that.”
