Katie Maloney (Sort Of) Praises Tom Schwartz’s Style After Telling Him He Looked Like a Couch: ‘Curtains Vibe’ (Exclusive)

After telling Tom Schwartz he looked like a “couch” in the floral-patterned jacket he wore to BravoCon 2023, Katie Maloney is once again dishing out her wardrobe critique — but this one’s a little more positive.

On Thursday night, as Maloney, 37, spoke with PEOPLE in an exclusive interview at the Vanderpump Rules season 11 red carpet premiere, Schwartz, 41, approached her from behind in an all-white suit.

“You look beautiful,” he told her, pointing to her glamorous leopard dress over a sheer lace top.

“You don’t look like a couch potato!” she reassured him, before adding with a laugh, “A little curtain vibration.” (Schwartz wore an ivory linen suit over a white turtleneck.)

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at Bravo Con in November, Schwartz shared how he reinvented his wardrobe after experiencing a slump in the style department. He explained how he gets back into his “groove” by working with stylist duo, The Solomon Sisters, made up of siblings Elana and Dina, to enhance his outfits.

“I’m not known for my style. I’ve been too messy lately and I thought I could use a bit of a symbolic reset as well,” he said, adding that he had been a “sad sack” and “a bit out of sorts” for a few years.

During the interview, Bravo star shared that his wardrobe isn’t the only part of his life that’s on the rise. “I have to put more work into myself and I’ve been doing that. I’ve been exercising, eating healthier. I’ve been spending more time with my family, which brings me so much joy,” he said.

He is getting back on track after a difficult year and a half that has played out on and off screen. “I felt like I was kind of falling apart,” he added.

In 2022, the Minnesota native split from Maloney (with whom he was in a 12-year relationship) and, earlier in 2023, came under scrutiny for supporting his best friend and business partner, Tom Sandoval, through a public cheating scandal that aired on 10 . season of the show series in March. “It’s not fun to be publicly shamed,” Schwartz said.

Behind the scenes, Schwartz has also been focused on being there for his family through many health issues: “I almost lost my brother, my dad and my other brother to testicular cancer, [they had] undergo chemotherapy.”.

But these days, Schwartz, who recently joined Bravo’s third season winter house, finally he feels like he’s “putting himself back together” and is “more confident and happy.”

“Homeostasis has returned,” he added.
