In 2009, Kavita Jain joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and ran in the Haryana Assembly elections in Sonipat constituency, defeating Anil Kumar Thakar of the Indian National Congress by 2,657 votes. In 2014, she contested from the same constituency, defeating Dev Raj Diwan of the Indian National Congress by 25,810 votes. On October 26, 2014, she was handed over to the following Cabinet Ministries of the Government of Haryana:

  • minister of social justice and empowerment
