Kayla Nicole Admits 'Exhausting' Online Trolling Over Travis Kelce Relationship Makes Her 'Question' Herself

Kayla Nicole wears her emotions on her camouflage sleeve.

Influencer, who acts on Special forces: the toughest test in the world season 3, isn’t letting her past relationship define her as she continues to talk about the attention she’s received since her ex-boyfriend Travis Kelce started dating Taylor Swift.

In the second episode of Fox’s intense competition series, Nicole, 32, discussed her five-year relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, and the challenges she’s faced since their split in 2022.

“Going through a public breakup, just to be honest, it was devastating. I’ve never experienced anything like it,” Nicole said in the confessional at the beginning of the episode, adding that she was “reduced to the title of something as small as someone’s ex-girlfriend.”

The sports journalist told her decision about the competition Special forces – which puts celebrity recruits to the test as they undergo rigorous physical and emotional tests in Wales, the home of British special forces selection – was partly out to prove something to herself.

“I feel like it’s going to have a huge impact for me if I finish this. ‘Am I doing enough? Am I enough?'” she asks. She tells fellow recruits, “I just get a lot of like… because [Kelce] dating such a mega superstar.”

Still, Nicole added that she “likes” Swift and thinks she’s “very talented.”

This season, the recruits will “endure the harsh realities of ocean warfare,” according to a press release. Some of the challenges they will face include a “dangerous ladder crossing between sheer cliffs nearly 100 feet above the sea” and “a boat dunk exercise where they will be submerged in an icy ocean.”

For the first challenge in episode 2, Nicole and her fellow recruits — including Denise Richards, Jordyn Wieber and Ali Manno — were asked to bungee jump from a 130-foot bridge before falling to the ground.

Before taking the plunge, Nicole explained: “I’m a very confident person, but when I’m dealing with trolls or just hating the internet, I constantly feel like I’m in a state of vulnerability. I’d like to be in a space where it doesn’t affect me at all.”

She clearly said, “I’m taking this course because I want to remind myself that I’m capable of doing hard things.”

Ultimately, Nicole passed the challenge and broke down in tears, telling a fellow recruit that she was “emotionally f—ing exhausted.” She was then summoned by one of the Directing Staff (DS) agents who subsequently noted her “self-doubt”.

“I’m feeling a little down, exhausted, a little bit,” Nicole said. “Even as I came to this experience, it was as if I was just telling myself, as if I didn’t want to embarrass myself. And there is also a part of me that wants to prove it, as if I am capable of doing difficult and challenging things.”

She adds, “It’s like I wanted to prove it to other people, honestly, but I really prove it to myself, because I feel like I need it.”

DC pulled a news article focusing on her breakup with Kelce. The headline read: “Travis Kelce’s ex Kayla Nicole begs trolls to ‘leave her alone’ as Taylor Swift releases new album.”

Nicole replied, “Yeah, it’s pretty constant. It’s exhausting.” When asked if that still happens, she said, “It doesn’t matter that I keep writing about the sky being blue, and people will get an answer about their ex and their new situation.”

“It’s unintentionally affected me to the point where it’s making me question, just like, my overall value as a person, as a partner,” she said, breaking down in tears.

When asked why she questions her worth, the media personality replied: “I think it’s just a comparison and it’s like a loop. I think I’m still trying to figure out how to deal with it.”

In the confessional, Nicole said, “I’m proud of the mental strength it took to get here, but I want to be able to control my emotions. I’m definitely going to have to use that to get to the end of this for sure.”

Later in the episode, Nicole told fellow recruit Brody Jenner about her conversation with DS and how he pulled the article. “I didn’t think he would do that,” she said, recounting the shock she felt when he opened the computer and showed her.

Special forces it’s not the first time Nicole has spoken openly about the negativity she received after a breakup. In October 2024, the sports commentator appeared on an episode of Angel Reese’s An unforgiving angel podcast to discuss the challenges.

“I’d be lying if I said that level of hate and just, like, chaos on the internet didn’t affect me, it does. Even to this day,” she said at the time. “You can go to my latest post and people will be arguing with each other about why I’m worthless and will never be a talented person and have no career.”

Later that month, Nicole held back tears when she opened up to I’m an athlete show about the backlash she received after appearing on Reece’s podcast. “I thought I was handling things with grace,” she said looking back.

“I answered the questions the best I could,” Nicole told hosts Brandon Marshall and Martellus Bennett on the Oct. 15 episode titled “Media Mastery.” However, the public “had their own take on things,” she said at the time.
