The local Conservative councillor who will replace Johnson in Westminster, former postman Steve Tuckwell, had stated that the vote was a “referendum” on Ulez.

Tuckwell mentioned the expansion of the zone, where drivers must pay a daily cost of £12.50 if their vehicle does not comply with emission requirements, in his victory speech. “Sadiq Khan has lost Labour this election,” declared Tuckwell.

In Uxbridge and South Ruislip, the vote share went from Conservative to Labour by 6.7 percentage points. To win the seat, Labour required a 7.6-point swing.

The Conservatives in Selby ascribed their defeat on outgoing MP Nigel Adams. According to Andrew Jones, the MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, who has been in charge of the majority of the Tory campaigning in Selby, people were “really disappointed” that Adams abruptly resigned after learning he wouldn’t be given a seat in the Lords.
