Kelly Clarkson Says Weight Loss Is a Result of Prescription Medication: 'Everybody Thinks It's Ozempic, It's Not'

Kelly Clarkson reveals she took weight loss drugs to help her on her health journey.

During the Monday, May 13, episode The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson, 42, interviewed Whoopi Goldberg and began their conversation by complimenting Goldberg on how great she looks. She said View co-host, “Every time I meet you, you look younger! You’re like Benjamin Button. Every time you walk in, it’s like crazy!”

“First of all, it’s all about the weight I’ve lost. I’ve lost almost two people,” replied the EGOT winner, 68. “I’m doing this wonderful opportunity that works for people who need help, and it’s been really good for me. ”

Clarkson was quick to note that she had also lost “a lot” of weight, adding: “Mine is different than people assume, but I ended up having to do that because my blood counts got really bad.”

She continued, “My doctor hounded me for two years, and I said, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems. Everyone thinks it’s Ozempic, but it’s not. It’s something else.’

Clarkson explained that the drug is “something that helps break down sugar”, noting that her body “doesn’t do it right”.

The American Idol the winner clarified that she does not take Ozempic — which is one of the FDA-approved prescription drugs for people with type 2 diabetes. The drugs work in the brain to affect feelings of satiety.

Two women then revealed how much they were at their heaviest weight even before they started taking prescription drugs. “I was 300 pounds,” Goldberg said.

“The heaviest, I was around 203 [lbs.] And I’m 5’3 and a half,” Clarkson shared.

Before speaking with Goldberg, the Grammy winner told PEOPLE in January that she was able to lose weight because she “listened to [her] Doctor. She admitted that she hadn’t for “a couple of years”.

The singer also said that her new home, New York, helped her get in shape. “Walking around town is a real workout,” she said, noting that she has added infrared saunas and cold baths to her routine.

She also noted that her diet includes a “healthy mix,” adding, “And 90 percent of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I love meat — sorry, vegetarians of the world!”

Later that month, she revealed on her talk show with guest Kevin James that she was pre-diabetic and that it motivated her to lose weight.

“But I wasn’t shocked by it. They said, ‘You are pre-diabetic. You are on the very border.’ And I said: ‘But I haven’t arrived yet,'” she joked. “And then I waited two years and then I was like OK, I’m going to do something about it.”
