Kelly Monaco Says Her General Hospital Exit 'Still Doesn't Make Any Sense' as She Shares Photo from Her 'Last Scene'

Kelly Monaco is still wrapping her head around her exit from General Hospital.

On Sunday, October 6, the longtime soap actress reflected on her last days of filming General Hospital with a post shared on Instagram.

“Last scene with the Davis girls,” she captioned a picture of herself sitting with her co-stars. ” 😘🥲🙏🏻 still doesn’t make sense to me.”

In August, PEOPLE confirmed that Monaco, 48, would not be returning to the famous soap opera after 21 years as Sam McCall. In a since-deleted reply to a comment on Soap Hub’The actress offered her own reaction on Instagram, which read, “What exactly is on your mind, she didn’t get fired, she didn’t take a pay cut so she had to leave.”

“’No primary role’.. do your homework. When Billy Miller was fired, Sam’s story ended. Depriving Sam of all the characteristics she had,” she wrote. “Something I’ve been working on for decades… I slowly took her apart, into a character I didn’t recognize, let alone the audience. Call it what you will…retaliation to it [sic] the finest. I will make the appropriate statement. The truth will set you free.”

Monaco was the first to join General Hospital 2003 and has since appeared in more than 2,000 episodes of the ABC soap. In 2006, she earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Sam.

General Hospital star Kelly Monaco ‘temporarily’ replaced after ‘breathing problems’

Prior to his two-decade-long career, Monaco played Livvie Locke on film GH spinoff Port Charles from 2000-2003. She also gained recognition by becoming the first star to take home the Mirrorball trophy with pro Alec Maz in Season 1 of the show Dancing with the stars.

In late September, Monaco’s mother Carmina also addressed her daughter’s firing from the fan-favorite series on Instagram.

“I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s amazing fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty and support you have shown her during her tenure at General Hospital,” Carmina posted. “On this final day, just four days before the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close her dressing room door for the last time.”
