During Sunday’s episode (October 6), host Jeremy Clarkson welcomed a new batch of contestants hoping to become a millionaire.
Bayswater’s Jackie Lynch was the first to take on the challenge – but ITV viewers were quick to criticize her performance.
She initially managed to get through the competition, although she used up lifelines in the first few rounds.
But as her confidence grew, Jackie seemed set to do well as she continued to climb the money ladder.
By the time she reached the £125,000 unscathed, Jackie decided to use her safety net, meaning the prize money was in the bag.
But she was tripped up by the next question, with no life belts left.
Jeremy asked: “Called the ‘fight of the century’, Floyd Mayweather’s 2015 boxing match against which opponent was the highest grossing in history?”
He then read the suggested answers which were: “A: Oscar De La Hoya, B: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, C: Manny Pacquiao or D: Conor McGregor.”
As Jackie realized that this would be a good question for her friend who she had already called, she admitted that she couldn’t go any further.
Before revealing that she would hit De La Hoya, Jackie firmly stated that she would not hit and would take the money instead.

The correct answer was Manny Pacquiao.
Jackie’s decision to take the money and leave the competition meant she missed out on her chance to earn another £875,000.
And viewers thought she could have done it if she hadn’t used up her lifesaving powers on earlier questions.
Taking to Xu, formerly of Twitter, to express their anger at the episode, one fan raged that Jackie “made a costly mistake” by using her life jackets too early in the show.
The most difficult quiz questions
Would you know the answers to some of the most difficult TV questions?
- Who Wants To Be A Millionaire – Earlier this year fans were left outraged after what they described as the “worst” question in the show’s history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: “Since the 2000 awards, the Oscar for Best Actress has never been won by a woman whose last name begins with which of these letters?” The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with a safe of £32,000, player Glen had to guess and decided on G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the best actress gong since 2000.
- The 1% Club – Viewers of Lee Mack’s popular ITV show were caught off guard by a question that also left punters confused. The query read: “Edna’s birthday is April 6th and Jen’s birthday is October 15th, so Amir’s birthday must be ‘X’ in January.” It turns out that the puzzle associates the numbers with their position in the sentence, so that 6 is the sixth word and 15 is the fifteenth word. So Amir’s birthday is January 24, which corresponds to the 24th word in the sentence.
- The Chase – The ITV daytime favorite left fans scratching their heads when he asked one of the most bizarre questions ever to grace the programme. One of the questions asks the player, “Someone who can’t tolerate nightshades should avoid eating what?” The options were – sweet corn, potato, carrot – with Steve choosing sweet corn, but the correct answer was potato.
“She could have gone all the way if she had used the lifelines more wisely,” said another.
While a third fumed, “And this is why you shouldn’t waste your lifebelt on easy questions.”
“Three life belts used up,” agreed another, while a fifth ITV viewer moaned: “Well, that was a very expensive lesson.”
Viewers were particularly upset that Jackie decided to ask the audience for help with a pop culture question, which they felt she should have answered easily.

“Which singer did Austin Butler play in the 2022 movie?” Jeremy asked for £8,000.
Jackie visibly groaned as the TV host read the question and gave her the answers: “A: Elvis Presley, B: Bruce Springsteen, C: Kurt Cobain, D: Axl Rose.”
“I saw the movie. I just couldn’t be sure who played him,” she admitted, before thanking the audience for their help.
Audience participation helped Jackie progress much further in the competition before she stumbled upon a boxing question – but did you know the answer?
