Ken Jeong Celebrates Popeyes Chicken Wings (and Modern Technology) in 2024 Super Bowl Commercial

Ken Jeong got a taste of the future after being frozen for 52 years in a fast food restaurant’s Super Bowl commercial

Ken Jeong enjoys Popeyes chicken wings, electric scooters, colorful dog breeds and other modern joys in the fast food restaurant’s Super Bowl ad.

The ad for the big game, focused on the chain’s new wings, sees Jeong playing a man frozen in 1972 and brought to the present day inside a science lab.

“You’re thawing me out! That means – ” Jeong says covered in icicles. “Yes. There is a better chicken wing: Popeyes,” the scientist replies.

“A sailor man?” Masked singer the star sighed.

“No, a place for chickens,” the scientist answers bluntly.

After biting into the chicken wing, a giddy Jeong begins to cry tears of joy. “Crispy, juicy. What else have we done?” he asks.

“I mean, man,” says the scientist. “There’s a lot going on.”

A series of clips show Jeong discovering everything the world has to offer since he froze 52 years ago, such as Crocs shoes and massage chairs. He has more success with some modern things than others. His first step on the electric scooter results in chicken wings (and his ass) on the ground. Besides, the robot vacuum cleaner leaves him crouched in the corner of the living room.

But he discovers the pleasures of modern society and ways to happily integrate Popeyes chicken wings into innovation.

“Two dogs in one? Impossible!” she shouts happily as she balances a tray of wings with a labradoodle on her lap.

“Package? For your fanny? Brilliant!” he says as he dips the wings into a cup of ranch in his belt pouch.

“Come daddy!” he shouts as he summons dozens of drones holding Popeyes packages.

The text at the end of the ad reads: “The wait is over! Popeye finally has wings.”

And not just one type of wing, but five. The chain is launching five different flavors as permanent additions to the menu: ghost pepper, sweet n’ spicy, honey BBQ wings, roasted garlic, parmesan and signature hot.

In August, the fast-food chicken chain launched sweet and spicy wings at select locations. Within two weeks of launch, the new wings became Popeyes’ most popular and best-selling menu item since the 2019 chicken sandwich launch, according to the brand.

The Popeyes Super Bowl commercial is scheduled to air during the Super Bowl on February 11th. The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will face off in Super Bowl LVIII, airing on CBS at 6:30 PM ET.
