Kendrick Lamar Takes More Shots at Drake and Whacks an OVO Owl Piñata in Victory Lap 'Not Like Us' Video — Watch!

Kendrick Lamar takes another victory lap in his “Not Like Us” music video.

After months of feuding with Drake, the West Coast icon, 37, fittingly released his long-awaited visual — directed by himself and creative collaborator Dave Free — on Thursday, July 4, marking a celebration event for his native Compton and a victory against his rap counterpart .

Following the spirit of his epic Jumping: Ken and Friends concert in Inglewood last month, the “Not Like Us” video gets some big outside help from his hometown and celebrity cast (including producer DJ Mustard, Tommy Clown, Schoolboy Q and NBA star DeMar DeRozan) as Lamar takes more subtle and direct shots at Drake .

From him hitting an OVO owl piñata (disclaimer: “no OVHoes were harmed during the making of this video”) to playing hopscotch while reciting his infamous “Tryna strike a chord, and it’s probably A-Minor” line, the nearly six-minute visual the show is full of trolling Drake references that go back to insults exchanged during the pair’s feud.

Most obvious is the rare appearance of Lamar’s fiancee, Whitney Alford, and their two children, Uzi and Enoch, all of whom Drake has mentioned in a number of his diss tracks (including “Push Ups” and “Family Matters”). Towards the end of the video, the family poses for a black and white portrait shot before the scene cuts to Alford and Lamar happily dancing to more Drake disses.

The visual ends with a close-up of Lamar staring at a lone owl perched on his arm, which he then locks in a cage before turning his back on it.

The lead-up to Lamar dropping his “Not Like Us” video kicked off on Wednesday, June 19 (aka Juneteenth) at the Kia Forum, where he hosted a greatest hits semi-concert that ended with Kao’s live debut performance of “Not” mi” (played at least five times in a row). Before he took the stage, other West Coast acts like Tyler the Creator, Roddy Ricch, Ty Dolla $igno, YG and more opened the show, and some even returned for Lamar’s performance of “Not Like Us.” encore.

Although Drake and Lamar’s ongoing feud fueled the momentous occasion, the latter hailed it as a landmark moment in hip-hop that helped unite the historically feuding parts of South Los Angeles on one stage.

“But you’ve never seen so many parts on one stage. Let the world see this,” he told the crowd. “We have to show everything. This is unity. Unity from all sides of LA, from East LA to West LA, Crips, Bloods, this makes me emotional.”

It’s unclear if Lamar will be following up his new music video with more music, but he teased a snippet of an unreleased track early on, so fans may be expecting something else soon.
