Not only has Lamar kept his love life under wraps, he’s also kept quiet about details related to his children. It wasn’t until Enoch appeared on the cover of Lamar’s 2022 album that fans learned he had fathered his second child. Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

However, he openly said that fatherhood was beneficial for his personal growth.

“My children have allowed me, in their development as human beings who are starting to walk and talk, to remove my ego,” he said in a candid interview with W Magazine in October 2022. “Knowing that my children will also have their own independence allows me to understand the unconditional love on my part.”

He went on to explain how becoming a father has shaped the way he sees others. “Am I going to let them be who they are? Will I let them travel the world and experience life as they know it? That’s love for me,” he said. “And when I look at it, I try to apply it to the way I express myself, how I look at my career and how I meet other individuals. Do I allow them to be who they are without any judgment? My children taught me that.”

Lamar welcomed his first child, a girl, with Alford in July 2019. Although her birth was publicized in the media, the couple never announced it themselves, nor did they reveal her name at the time.

It wasn’t until Lamar released his fifth studio album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers in May 2022 that he announced that his daughter’s name is Uzi.

Fans discovered her name thanks to the lyrics in the song “Mr. Moral,” where the rapper mentions his daughter with the verse, “Uzi, your father is in deep meditation.”

At the 2023 Grammy Awards, Lamar won several awards for the album, including “Best Rap Performance” and “Best Rap Album”. During his speech, he thanked his family for being his inspiration. “First and foremost, I want to thank my family for giving me the courage and vulnerability to share these stories and my truth with this album,” he said.

After the win, Alford handed out candy video their daughter’s reactions on social networks. In the video, he can be heard saying: “Dad! He is talking about us. He talks about his family… Uzi, Enoch and Mom.”

Lamar and Alford kept the news of the second pregnancy pretty quiet and the couple never publicly announced that they were pregnant. However, in May 2022, Lamar seemingly confirmed that they had welcomed a second child, a son, with the release Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

The album cover, which Lamar and Alford shared on Instagram, is a photo of their family. In the video, Lamar stands with a crown of thorns on his head while holding their daughter. Meanwhile, Alford sits on the bed behind him holding their young son.

Again, the couple chose not to make any public announcements regarding his birth or his name, but another series of songs helped confirm the baby’s name is Enoch. In the song “Mr. Moral,” Lamar sings, “Enoch, your father just detoxed,” and on the song, “Worldwide Steppers,” he sings, “My son Enoch is part two.”

Many of the songs on the album touch on deeply personal issues, including the rapper’s past trauma and journey through therapy. Speaking with W magazine, he opened up about how his children inspired him. He explained that at first he wasn’t sure if he wanted to release the album because it was personal.

“[Then] I thought of my children,” he said. “I thought about when they turn 21, or when they’re older in life and when I have grandchildren, or if I’ve been gone for a long time — that can be a prerequisite for how to cope. That’s beauty to me.”
