Kesha Revives Her Iconic Trash Bag Dress After 14 Years — and Swaps Her Shoes on the Red Carpet

Kesha’s latest red carpet look is trash in the best possible way.

The “TiK ToK” singer, 37, rocked a revised version of one of her early career looks — her trash bag dress for the 2010 MTV VMAs — at GLAMOUR GermanyWomen of the Year Awards on Tuesday, November 12, and stopped on the carpet for a shoe change.

Kesha hit the red carpet at the Fotografiska Berlin event — where she was named the Music Icon of 2024 — in a black two-piece ensemble that looked like it was made from trash bags, evoking her iconic award show look from more than a decade ago.

Instead of a trash bag-inspired mini dress, Kesha’s updated look included a strapless, backless top with a scalloped hem, plus a matching maxi skirt with ultra-high slits and a long train.

At first, she paired the head-turning outfit with stiletto black heels – one of which had her phone mounted on a miniature tripod attachment – and later swapped them out for a slightly edgier pair.

The “Die Young” singer stopped posing halfway down the carpet to, with the help of two people, change into a pair of strappy sandals, also black, with large detailing on the spikes.

In contrast to her 2010 trash-inspired look — which featured her hair in a very high and long hybrid ponytail and braid style — she wore a simple updo, with her shoulder-length blonde locks falling to a slicked-back middle part.

Speaking of unconventional and full circle ‘fit na GLAMOUR Germany event — where she was celebrated alongside fellow 2024 honorees Ashley Park, Valentina Sampaio and journalist Düzen Tekkal — Kesha said it was a product of examining her career to determine how she “became so iconic” over the years.

“I’m an icon. This is an icon. And I saw how I became so iconic and that was through making art out of trash,” she said, according to the magazine. “So I’m an icon in trash.”

Kesha’s big night in Berlin comes after – pun intended – a string of several big releases for the star this year.

Last month, the singer joined Charli xcx on stage at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles for a debut live performance of the duo’s “Spring Breakers” remix, days after the release of the “Apple” singer’s remix album. The brother is completely different, but still a brat.

The Oct. 15 concert also included a performance of Kesha’s 2009 hit “Tik Tok,” featuring Charli’s Sweat Tour co-headliner Troye Sivan.

On the same day, Kesha released a cover of Lindsey Buckingham’s “Holiday Road” for the Spotify Singles Holiday Collection 2024. The singer’s version of the 1983 holiday hit features a vocoder effect and electro-rock production from Zhona, who also worked on her song “Joyride.”
