Netflix's The Night Agent Is Back in Action with New Teaser and Season 2 Premiere Date: Watch

Night agent is back!

On Wednesday, November 13, Netflix announced that the Gabriel Basso-starring action thriller will return for a second season in January 2025. The streaming service unveiled the news along with an action-packed teaser and new images that tease what’s next for the FBI agent who works at the White House in Washington, DC

Based on Matthew Quirk’s 2019 novel of the same name, the series follows Peter Sutherland (Basso), a low-ranking FBI agent unexpectedly tasked with uncovering a mole in the US government after learning of a massive conspiracy in the first season.

According to Netflix, Peter’s “efforts to save the president in season one earned him the chance to become a night agent in season two. But working for the secret organization Night Action will lead Peter into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.”

According to the teaser, “It takes a certain kind of person to make it as a night agent.” And based on the footage, it looks like Peter will be tested at every turn in the upcoming episodes led by showrunner Shawn Ryan.

The new look for season 2 comes after Netflix teased that “danger” was brewing after debuting the first photos in October. The streamer also revealed that the show has scored an early season three renewal, with production of those episodes set to begin in Istanbul in late 2024 and resume filming in New York in 2025.

All about ‘Night Agent’ star Gabriel Basso

Speaking with PEOPLE about the first season, which premieres in March 2023, Basso revealed what drew him to this political conspiracy and action thriller. “What made me want to do it was talking to Shawn and hearing how grounded he was in wanting to do it,” he said at the time.

Basso added, “I don’t like it when violence is kind of romanticized and made to be this, like, ‘Oh, I’m smoldering through the punch.’ So I’m glad that his vision for this show was really dark.”

Judging by the reaction to the first season, Bass’s instinct was right. After his debut, Night agent became the “most-watched series of 2023 (by viewership)”, according to Netflix, which also listed it as the 7th most popular English-language series of all time, amassing 98.2 million views in 91 days.
