Kesha Wants to ‘Reclaim’ Her ‘Joy’ with New Music Post-Lawsuit: ‘I Fought So F—ing Hard and Long for It’

Kesha’s new music will help her “reclaim” her “joy.”

In an exclusive interview for ELLEthe pop star, 37, opened up about her new music in light of her nearly decade-long legal battle against producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald.

While discussing how Kesha has experienced “pain” in her life, she opened up about why her upcoming album will embody “joy.”

Kesha declares she is ‘coming to change the world’ with new music following Dr Luke’s legal battle

“Everyone knows me as a fun human being. My soul is very funny. My name means ‘innocent joy’. But, you know, there’s only so much one can take before they feel destroyed…” she said.

Kesha added, “My soul needs this album. I need my joy back. Because I fought so fucking long and hard for it.”

Since starting her own label, Kesha Records, she has also revealed her plans to change the music industry over the next 10 years.

“The music industry should be fucking scared of me,” Kesha said. “Because I’m going to make some big moves and change this s—. I really want to take it apart piece by piece and light up every corner. I hope my legacy ensures that this never happens to anyone again.”

In July, the “Women” performer released her first single as an independent artist, “Joyride”. (Parted ways with RCA Records and Vector Management in June 2023.)

ua Forbes interview, Kesha announced that she wants to “change the world” — especially for all artists who go through similar situations.

“I started my own record company and I’m coming to change the world, baby, so just hang in there,” Kesha said, before advising fellow artists to “keep writing songs” through tough times.

The “Blah Blah Blah” hitmaker added: “It’s really fucked up that in this country you can lose your rights to your voice, but you’ll never lose your rights to your truth and the truth will set you free. I’m working really hard to change everything in to my power in this world, so that this never happens to anyone again.”
