Law Roach and Keke Palmer have a special kind of relationship.
The celebrity stylist was joined by his friend and former client to celebrate his new book, How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence from the World’s Only Image Architect. On the stand Wednesday, Oct. 2, Roach recalled a particularly memorable moment in their friendship.
“So when me and Keke started working, we worked together years and years ago,” the stylist began. “It didn’t really work out, but we always loved each other. It was always love. It was always love.”
He explained that they started working together again when Keke was pregnant with son Leodis “Leo” Andrellton, whom she gave birth to in February 2023.
“And I said, ‘Oh, let’s show off the baby bump,'” recalled Roach, 46. “I bring all these clothes and I could never get the clothes right. And she actually called me once, she said, ‘You might be the best stylist in the world, but you are not the best stylist for me.’ ‘ I’m—— I love it.”

“Law lives for love,” joked 31-year-old Palmer.
“I love it, I love it,” Roach replied. “But she was still right because I had an idea in my head of how I wanted to present her. I wanted her to be proud of her baby bump and show it off. And that was her personal prerogative, she didn’t want to give it to the world yet.”
The stylist then told Palmer, “So, I’ll always love you.”

Roach’s client list boasts A-listers like Anya Taylor-Joy, Celine Dion and Ariana Grande, but he’s best known for his longtime partnership with Zendaya. The duo have been working together since 2011 when the Emmy winner, now 28, was still a Disney Channel star.

Some fan-favorite collaborations include Zendaya Mugler’s 1995 robot bodysuit that she wore during Dina: The second part press tour (which she later told Vogue he made her “really giddy”.) and a fabulous Tommy Hilfiger ball gown Euphoria the star wore to the Met Gala 2019.

At New York Fashion Week in September, Roach told PEOPLE that he “couldn’t” pick his favorite Zendaya look.
“I can’t say I have a favorite because they all mean a lot,” he said on Christian Cowan’s show. “We’ve been together for over a decade and we’ve just looked at each other so much.”
However, he shared that creating the look is “all about confidence.” “You can wear whatever you want, regardless of size, age, whatever. It’s all about confidence.”
