Kevin Connolly Reveals Moment He Discovered Unhappily Ever After Costar Nikki Cox Was Cheating    

Kevin Connolly recalls his first heartbreak.

On Monday, Escort actor, 49, joined Christine Taylor and David Lascher at their Hey dude… The 90s were calling! podcast discussing his career as a child actor in the 90s and his heartbreak when then-girlfriend Nikki Cox left him for Unfortunately forever costar Bobcat Goldthwait.

“Nikki Cox, who played my sister, and I started dating between seasons four and five,” Connolly said of working on unhappily ever after, which followed the life of a dysfunctional family led by a schizophrenic dad, Jack (Geoff Pierson), who had a close friendship with his son’s talking toy rabbit, Mr. Floppy — a puppet voiced by Goldthwait.

“A few days before the slate was up for season five…I got a call from Jeremy London and he said, ‘Kevin, get in your car…’ He said, ‘Get in your car, drive to 711 and open National Enquirer,Connolly explained.

“I get into the car and drive down the street,” the actor recalled. “I have a knot in my stomach and I start flipping through the Question mark.”

“And there’s a picture of Bobcat and Nikki going out. And then the next day, or about two days later, I had to start reading the chart, and we had to just eradicate 24 weeks of misery,” Connolly concluded.

Taylor, 52, shared her sympathies for the actor at the time, saying: “There’s nothing worse than being horrible to reveal something like that publicly.”

“And the guy you’re working with,” Lascher, 51, added.

Connolly went on to share how much the affair had affected him and how Cox had left him “heartbroken” in the final years of the series, which ran from 1995 to 1999. He added that the break-up was “the first time” he thought “die.”

“It was pretty scary. Yes, I was annoyed. I couldn’t sleep. It was one of those jobs,” Connolly said.

Despite this, Connolly confirmed that the former couple “stayed in touch over the years” and still “see each other from time to time”. The actor also joked that longtime friend Taylor had a “front row seat” to the “Bobcat incident.”

After Connolly and Cox broke up, the actress became engaged to Goldthwait in the late ’90s and the two remained in a relationship until 2005.
