Sandhu committed suicide on December 9, 2021, at his residence at Galli No. 4, Harinder Nagar, Faridkot, Punjab. Her parents told her that the cause of her death was that she was dissatisfied with her performance at the 64th National Shooting Championships in Peru.

- Her parents further informed that on the night of December 8, 2021, she was studying on the first floor, while all other family members were sleeping on the second floor.
- In an interview, her coach Sukhraj Kaur spoke about Sandhu and her behavior within the team and said:
She always showed a willingness to learn. Earlier this week, when we came back from Delhi after the national competition, she was a little sad. But we had no idea she would take this tragic step. Twice a year we invite sports psychologists to provide consultations to our shooters. It is so sad to see such a talented child lose his life. “
- The police reported that no suicide note was found at the incident site. They also said that the investigation will be further conducted under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

We received a call from the control room that a girl committed suicide by shooting herself at her residence in Galli 4, Harinder Nagar, Faridkot in the early hours of Thursday. On reaching there, we found the body of 17-year-old Khush Seerat Kaur Sandhu. She shot herself in the head with a .22 pistol. According to family members, she was disappointed with her performance at the national competition in Delhi earlier this week. Following the autopsy, the body has been handed over to the family and an investigation has been launched. “
