Kim Kardashian Snuck Kris Jenner to Robert Kardashian Sr.’s Death Bed Where They ‘Professed Their Love’

Kris Jenner had to work hard to say goodbye to ex-husband Robert Kardashian Sr.

Robert Sr.’s cousin, Cici Bussey, shared a surprising anecdote with Khloé Kardashian on Thursday’s episode of the show The Kardashians when Khloé, 39, interviewed her for a family video “time capsule” she was putting together.

During the interview, Cici told Khloé that her maternal grandmother, Helen, told her not to talk to Kris, 68, amid her divorce from Robert Sr.

“The lesson is family first,” explained Cici. “When your mom and dad were getting divorced, the phone would ring, [it was] Helen is calling me, [saying] ‘What’s she doing? You have to fix it!’ She thought I could fix it!”

“And your dad got mad at me because your grandma said no one could talk to him [Kris], and I said I can’t do that because then I wouldn’t be able to talk to Kourtney, Kimberly, Khloé and Rob, so I was kicked out,” she continued. “And no one talked to me. Your dad didn’t talk to me and was mad at me until he died, and that’s what I regret the most.”

When Khloe insisted that there was “no way he’s mad” at Cici and that she would be proud of her instead, Cici retorted, “I went against the Kardashians and I shouldn’t have.”

“One day around that time, your grandma Helen walked over to the house and said to Chris, ‘Come out,'” Cici recalled. “She’s screaming [saying to Kris], ‘I worked so hard all my life, you destroyed our family. The Kardashian castle has collapsed!'”

Despite tensions between the women, Cici claimed Helen finally wanted Kris back in her life — and even took steps to do so, all thanks to PEOPLE magazine.

“I remember when she got married [Caitlyn Jenner]they were in PEOPLE magazine, and Helen was there [yelling], ‘Look, she made PEOPLE! She’s in PEOPLE!”, Cici recalled. “She was carrying that PEOPLE Magazine around like she was her child, and that was when she wasn’t even supposed to like it.”

“She was so proud of her, so proud that she stood up and survived and didn’t crash,” she added. “The castle fell, your mom didn’t. She was proud!”

Despite this, Kris still had to rely on daughter Kim Kardashian to say goodbye to her late ex-husband while Robert Sr. was on his deathbed.

– Kim snuck her in – Cici revealed. “They said goodbye, I think they confessed their love and she said, ‘You’re the love of my life,’ and he said the same thing. And he died.”

“It was fantastic and unbelievable until it wasn’t, and that’s the truth,” she added. “It was magical until it wasn’t and it ended that day.”

Kris was married to Robert Sr. from July 1978 until March 1991, when their divorce was finalized. Together they welcomed four children: Kourtney, Kim, Khloé and Roberta Jr.

The Safely founder met Caitlyn (who came out publicly as transgender in 2015) in 1990, and the two married in April 1991, a month after her divorce from Robert Sr. was finalized. The couple – who have daughters Kendall, 27, and Kylie, 26 – were together for 22 years when they announced their split in 2013. (Their divorce was then finalized in December 2014.)

After Kris and Robert Sr.’s divorce, the former remained close friends as he jumped into the national spotlight when he acted as the attorney for close friend OJ Simpson during his infamous 1994 murder trial. He was later diagnosed with esophageal cancer in July 2003 and died less than two months later at the age of 59 on September 30, 2003.
