The King and Queen allowed the cameras to capture the first year of Charles’ reign
Amidst all the pomp and circumstance surrounding the morning of his coronation, King Charles managed to show off his sense of humor!
Never-before-seen moments from Charles’ coronation were caught on camera for an upcoming 90-minute BBC documentary, Charles III: Coronation Year, which airs on December 26 in the UK
In the film clip, Charles, 75, is seen walking down the corridor at Buckingham Palace on the morning of his coronation on May 6, supported by his pages, including grandson Prince George, 10. As he approaches his close associate, Charles waves his coronation robes and in a silly voice tells his horse, “I can fly!”
The documentary also features interviews with key players from the coronation, including the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, who (to Charles’s delight!) can be seen slurring his words during the coronation rehearsal prayer) and one of the Queen’s oldest friends, Camilla Fiona, Marquess of Lansdowne, who was Camilla’s companion or ‘companion’ that day.

Another contributor is Camilla’s sister Annabel Elliot, who cries as she watches her sister, the new Queen, leave for the historic ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

“When I remembered how I was 2 years old and watching [the late Queen Elizabeth’s] the coronation on a small black and white TV and here’s this golden carriage with my sister in it,” she says in the documentary. “I can’t explain the feeling because it’s so surreal. This can’t happen. It was the right moment.”
